DB Schenker expands its global air cargo network. The logistics services provider introduced its new European air cargo hub at Frankfurt Airport. The air cargo hub will begin operation in early August.

Import and export units currently operating at different sites will be merged into a single unit right at the airport. With the hub, DB Schenker, number two in international air cargo, ensures consistently high service quality from a single source, particularly along international supply chains. Fifty million euros have been invested in the project.

European hub improves efficiency of equipment and systems

“This new facility is a visible sign that we are looking toward the future, even in these difficult times, aligning ourselves with our customers’ future needs and improving the efficiency of equipment and systems” announced Dr. Thomas C. Lieb, responsible for Global Air/Ocean Freight activities at DB Schenker.

In the future, cargo shipments for industrial and trade customers from around the world will be bundled, stored temporarily and processed for onward carriage on the 15,000 square meter ground floor of the CargoCity Süd logistics center.

The second floor of the facility contains a roughly 10,000 square meter warehouse for spare aircraft parts. The aviation industry is also among the customers relying on DB Schenker logistics services. In addition, the facility includes offices for around 200 employees on two floors of office space covering 4,000 square meters.

The hall on the top floor was built without columns to allow large parts to be stored without difficulty. State-of-the-art x-ray equipment, refrigerated storage for temperature-controlled goods, separate rooms for hazardous goods, and multiple palletizing lines make the facility one of the most modern and efficient air cargo hubs in the international DB Schenker network.
