Find out about the carbon footprint, environmental activities and prospective actions of the DB Schenker Logistics Business Unit in the latest environmental progress report from Schenker AG. Roughly 1.5 million data were evaluated and analyzed for the report.

The Environmental Performance Report 2009 is the second report on the carbon footprint of DB Schenker Logistics for all transportation services including offices and storage areas. According to the report, greenhouse gas emissions from all transportation services including stationary plants totaled 14.3 million metric tons in 2008. Air Freight emissions accounted for just under half of all greenhouse gas emissions, while Ocean Freight and Land Transport were responsible for one-fourth and one-fifth respectively.

Validated calculation method according to ISO 14064-1

The calculation method and roughly 150-page final report from Öko-Institut Berlin were validated according to ISO 14064-1 by Deloitte Cert.

The report also includes calculations for the pollutants NOx, SOx, NMHC and PM as well as energy and water consumption, waste and waste disposal, and refrigerants in stationary plants calculated according to the WHO General Reporting Index.

The majority of the report is dedicated to presenting and analyzing the data. Other sections present the DB Group’s Green Logistics campaigns with a particular focus on the DB Schenker Logistics business segments. Best practice examples from DB Schenker’s national companies round out the report.

DB Schenker participates in standardization of emissions calculations at the EU level

The highly scientific nature of the emissions calculations is also reflected in DB SchenkerLogistics’role as an intermediary between customers and partners. With regard to the general policy framework for sustainability issues, DB Schenker Logistics is participating in the DIN/CEN standardization process to create a standard method for calculating transportation emissions at the EU and national level.
