DB Schenker: 25th anniversary of successful business in Bulgaria

After 25 years of successful business in Bulgaria DB Schenker, the world’s leading global logistics provider, recorded a considerable increase in turnover by 9,3% in 2017. This confirms the leading role of DB Schenker in Bulgaria, offering a full range of integrated logistics solutions and a wide range of services for all kinds of transport.
A Bulgarian office was originally opened in March 1889, 17 years after Gottfried Schenker founded Schenker & Co. in Vienna. Bulgaria was strategically important from a commercial, economic and geographical point of view, so it was one of the first countries on the Balkans where Schenker established a branch office. It was registered as a Bulgarian company.

After years of development and growth, during World War II, many of Schenker's offices in Europe were closed. Their gradual recovery began after 1945. In Bulgaria, the new start was given with the registration of Schenker EOOD in August 1993. Two employees held the administrative and operational functions. There was no computer in the office, only a telephone, fax and telex. In the 90s, Schenker managed to grow and develop despite the unstable and dynamic economic environment.

The new millennium opened new prospects for the company in Bulgaria. In 2004, Schenker's storage facilities were over 6000 m2 and the company had already founded its branch offices in the cities of Rousse (1998), Varna (1999), Plovdiv and Sevlievo (2001) and Bourgas (2003).

The relocation to a new country Headquarters took place in 2010. It was a modern logistics terminal, 20 minutes from Sofia (in Bozhurishte). Designed as a truck connection to a 220 m long private rail siding, It was the country’s most modern facility, situated on 48 000 sq. m. plot of land, the facility was energy efficient and equipped according to the latest security standards so that TAPA certificate could be achieved.

Relocations and modernization of all other branches in the country followed.

In 2018, Schenker EOOD has focused on its latest expansion- again in Bozhurishte- where the company is now doubling the storage space for logistics and cross-docking operations with an extension to its main logistics terminal in the country.

25 years after its establishment, Schenker EOOD is a part of the global DB Schenker network, handling hundreds of thousands shipments per year at 10 locations in Bulgaria and has a team of more than 340 professionals.

The company is a leading provider of logistics services in the country and offers a complete portfolio of solutions for land transport, air and ocean transport, contract logistics, multimodal solutions, warehousing, value added services, relocations, fairs and exhibitions logistics.
