Deniz, Senior Internal Communications Specialist
A BIG perk of this role is that I still get to handle environmental-related initiatives, a true passion of mine.
Since then, Deniz has been involved with more than 14 of these initiatives. He’s also encouraged other sites within his region to take part in corporate social responsibility activities. In fact, 2019 was the DB Schenker Americas’ most successful year yet, with 48 efforts in total (38 humanitarian aid, 10 climate protection and conservation) raising nearly $42,000.
Along with these environmental activities, Deniz also helped with the auditing process, preparing DB Schenker’s U.S. sites for the ISO 14001 Environmental certification audits. The first U.S. site obtained the ISO 14001 certificate in 2013 and has maintained this status with annual audits ever since.
He Truly Cares for Others
A member of DB Schenker’s Internal Communications team since 2016, Deniz enjoys creating campaigns and driving employee engagement activities for the Americas region.
“It’s very rewarding to know that we do our part in supporting major worldwide initiatives such as Breast Cancer Awareness Month, Movember (Prostate Awareness Month), Mental Health Month, and Asian Pacific American History Month,” Deniz says.
“We’re also making employees aware of certain health related days of the year,” he continues, “and providing them with an outlet to share their personal experiences relating to the specific topics on ONE Schenker (e.g., Mental Health Month, World MS Day, and Vision Awareness Month).”
A Diverse Background
Born in New York to parents who immigrated there from Turkey in the late-‘70s, Deniz is fluent in both Turkish and English. He keeps up with his Turkish traditions and celebrates both of his cultures on two of the most popular holidays every year—Bayram and New Year’s Eve.
While growing up, Deniz was the only one of his friends who didn’t open presents on Christmas Day. Instead, he had to wait till December 31st to get his gifts and had a huge party to welcome the New Year. This is how the Turkish community does it, and Deniz’s family is proud to continue that tradition.
A positive role model to the people in his life, Deniz provides the people around him with the spark they need to get on the road to health and fitness (e.g., his wife, brother, friends, neighbors, and coworkers). In fact, he loves fitness so much that he founded his own “one-stop-shop” for everything fitness online.
Recognized by his peers on DB Schenker’s Employee Appreciation Day in both 2019 and 2021, Deniz is looking forward to getting involved with even more earth-friendly and environmental-focused efforts in the future.
