DB Schenker hosted the first Sustainable Logistics Forum

The logistic industry has a big impact on the world's CO2 emissions. 10 to 15 percent of greenhouse gases are caused by this sector, and global trade is still growing. Inevitably, all logistic companies, shippers, carriers, and every participant in this industry need to maximize their sustainability efforts.

In Berlin, several logistics experts assembled to discuss this challenging topic of our times. DB Schenker hosted the very first Sustainable Logistics Forum, a perfect platform to discuss the future of sustainability in logistics. Speakers from different perspectives gave attendees a vast range of ideas and solutions regarding sustainability.

"At DB Schenker, we take responsibility for driving sustainability forward, and therefore, we initiated the first Sustainability Logistics Forum. We believe this challenge can't be solved alone but needs joint efforts of participants in the supply chains ecosystem."

Different perspectives – one common goal at the Sustainable Logistics Forum

Politicians, researchers, carriers, and, of course, DB Schenker customers from different industries joined the forum intending to drive sustainability together for the logistics industry. The keynote of Josué C. Velazquez gave the attendees insights on "Measuring Sustainability" of the Sustainable Supply Chain Lab at MIT (Massachusetts Institute of Technology) in Boston. State Secretary, Hartmut Höppner, talked about the political challenges of sustainable logistics. Soren Toft, CEO of MSC, showed the audience what sustainability means to the biggest shipping company in the world.

The program consisted of two panel discussions. In the customer panel, experienced managers of Shell, L’Oreal and Cisco talked about how sustainability is driving the transformation of the supply chain management in organizations. In addition, researchers from the carrier side debated in the solution panel on how sustainability will impact logistics in the future.

Andrea Goeman, VP Global Sustainability, DB Schenker: "Carbon neutrality is the long-term goal of our industry and we need to team up and define strategies and set standards together. For that, our first Sustainable Logistics Forum was a good opportunity to discuss the overarching and rising importance of sustainability in the global supply chains."

    Sustainable Solutions at DB Schenker

The DB Schenker VoloDrone was showcased in front of the Sustainable Logistics Forum: an electric heavy-lift drone engineered by Volocopter. DB Schenker continues to work on more innovative sustainable transportation within the supply chain and proudly announced a new milestone for their electric truck fleet with 1.5 million kilometers driven without a drop of fuel.
