DB Schenker Launches Sizable New Energy Truck Fleet to Strengthen Green Logistics Efforts in China

DB Schenker, one of the world's leading logistics providers, has announced that it will expand its trucking fleet with a significant quantity of ‘iBlue’ energy trucks manufactured by Foton Motor Group, in order to accelerate the implementation of its green logistics system in China.

DB Schenker, one of the world's leading logistics providers, has announced that it will expand its trucking fleet with a significant quantity of ‘iBlue’ energy trucks manufactured by Foton Motor Group, in order to accelerate the implementation of its green logistics system in China. This move is an integral part of DB Schenker's global initiative to be emission-free by 2030.

As part of China's efforts to meet its Dual-Carbon Goals, a series of policies such as the "New Energy Automobile Industry Development Plan" and the "Guiding Opinions on Accelerating the Establishment and Improvement of a Green and Low-Carbon Circular Development Economic System” have been introduced to promote the development and application of various types of new energy vehicles, including logistics and transportation vehicles. With the aim to contribute to the country’s Dual-Carbon Goals, DB Schenker has been working closely with Foton Motor Group and other new energy vehicle manufacturers to set the groundwork for a strong green logistics and transportation infrastructure in Greater China.

The Foton iBlue New Energy Light Truck is a smart and environmentally friendly vehicle that delivers both safety and comfort. The model comes with a high-standard specification including a CATL 100.27kWh powered battery. Using vehicle-to-everything (V2X) communication, the vehicle can efficiently handle vehicle transit, power replenishment and maintenance, ensuring enhanced driving safety.

Furthermore, the light-duty iBlue truck features a transmission efficiency of 96 percent and a lightweight body design with a range of 200 kilometers on a single charge and under standard load, considerably expanding the transport radius and application possibilities for new energy vehicles.

Under the partnership with Foton Motor Group — focusing on electrified and decarbonized transportation — DB Schenker will purchase 38 electric trucks and operate them in 14 provinces and cities across China to minimize the carbon footprint of the transportation process. The delivery of these new energy trucks is scheduled to be completed in July this year.

Once the new energy vehicles are put into service, carbon emissions during transportation will be greatly reduced compared to traditional fuel vehicles. Based on a single truck's projected annual operational mileage of 50,000 kilometers, 38 electric trucks can reduce carbon dioxide emissions by 549.7 tons per year, the equivalent of planting more than 30,000 trees.

Vishal Sharma, CEO, Greater China Cluster, DB Schenker: "DB Schenker attaches great importance to the China market, and this investment represents a significant step forward in our company's commitment to a sustainability strategy in Greater China. DB Schenker, as one of the world's leading logistics providers, has always believed that green logistics is the way forward for the transportation business. With the expansion of our green transportation fleet, we intend to expedite the establishment of a green logistics and transportation system to help our customers in Greater China fulfill their carbon emission reduction targets."
