DB Schenker is a strong advocate of smart logistics and a pioneer of blockchain usage in logistics. At the 3rd China Smart Logistics Summit 2018 last week in Shanghai, Manohar Mariappa, Head of Integrated Cargo Management (ICM) APAC at DB Schenker, shared DB Schenker’s involvement with smart logistics practices aiming at optimizing its customers’ supply chains.
Amongst others, Mariappa introduced the concept of blockchain in the field of logistics. Blockchain technologies enable a more effective coordination and collaboration between the numerous partners along a supply chain by sending data such as tracking information to the blockchain becoming immediately visible to all involved partners. As a result, transparency across the overall supply chain is gained and the need to integrate individual IT landscapes waived. At the same time, fraud and the risk of counterfeit decrease remarkably.
Going forward, we, at DB Schenker, will keep focusing on the development of smart logistics solutions increasing efficiency and improving aspects of our customers’ supply chains enabling them to react quickly and flexibly to the demanding and ever-changing requirements of the global market.
