DB Schenker wins the 2022 Carbon Neutrality Solution Award
Award for building an innovation-based sustainable industrial ecosystem
Award for building an innovation-based sustainable industrial ecosystem
At the 2022 International Green Zero-Carbon Festival and the 2022 ESG Global Leaders Summit themed “Paving the Way to a Carbon-Neutral Future” co-hosted by Syobserve, Gongyidaily.com, and various Chinese mass and financial media, DB Schenker won the “2022 Carbon Neutrality Solution Award” with its “Green Carbon-neutral Solution for Cargo Flights”, which significantly cuts down on greenhouse gas emissions. This award fully demonstrated DB Schenker’s proactive approach and commitment in leading the logistics and transportation industry for sustainable development and advancing the vision of carbon neutrality.
Driving low-carbon development in all fields has become a global imperative; China has also put forward ambitious goals for carbon peaking and neutrality to specify the guidelines for sustainable transformation in each industry. DB Schenker proactively responded to the industrial requirements by exploring low-carbon development and striving to be a “low-carbon pathfinder”.
Throughout the years, DB Schenker has always been taking sustainable development as an important pillar for shaping future competitiveness. Its professional experience and innovation strengths in logistics have enabled DB Schenker to establish partnerships in various industries, explore and practice low-carbon development in ocean, air, and land transportation, proactively facilitate emission reduction, creating green supply chains, and set benchmarks for industry-wide sustainable development.
The Green Carbon-neutral Solution for Cargo Flights proposed by DB Schenker is co-launched by DB Schenker and Lufthansa Cargo. The cargo flights employing sustainable aviation fuel have been in regular service since April 2021 between Shanghai (PVG) and Frankfurt (FRA), realizing net-zero greenhouse gas emissions, which is the first of its kind in commercial cargo aviation.
This solution adopts sustainable aviation fuel produced from renewable waste and residue materials, fully eliminating CO2 emissions arising from conventional kerosene. The greenhouse gases generated from the combustion, processing and transportation processes are replaced by photosynthesis and fully offset by sustainable compensation programs, thereby ensuring 100% net-zero greenhouse gas emissions.
As of now, the Green Carbon-neutral Solution for Cargo Flights has already been employed in more than 100 flights, and is continuing its service. In addition, DB Schenker clients using this service can incorporate the CO2 emissions saved through the use of sustainable aviation fuels into their carbon footprints. Therefore, this innovative initiative not only serves as a driving force for decarbonization in cargo aviation but also facilitates the sharing of decarbonization results with more industry participants, thereby co-building a more sustainable industrial ecology.
Vishal Sharma, CEO Greater China Cluster, DB Schenker: "It is such an honour to see that DB Schenker’s Green Carbon-neutral Solution for Cargo Flights is highly recognized by the industry, and we are more than happy to enable our clients to communicate and share the value of sustainability through adopting this solution. Upon our 150th Anniversary Year, the key pillars of DB Schenker will be enhancing the competitiveness and empowering our clients. In the future, DB Schenker will continue to develop more green and low-carbon transportation solutions to contribute to China’s ‘carbon neutrality’ goals and sustainable development."
Martin Habisreitinger, Senior Vice President, Airfreight, DB Schenker Greater China added: “We are always committed to helping our clients achieve business success while doing our best to promote the coordinated development of environment, economy and society. With this in mind, the Green Carbon-neutral Solution for Cargo Flights is just one of the ways in which we can help our clients reduce their carbon footprint and increase their green competitiveness. And we will continue to look for more ways to support our clients in China in their sustainable transformation."
