DB Schenker set off with Czech biathletes to season 4 with a new trailer truck

Quality facilities for preparation and races are invaluable for every athlete. Transfers to races of the Biathlon World Championship must be managed within the service facilities, which the logistics company DB Schenker has been taking care of for the fourth year. This year’s biathlon truck was replaced with a more modern Renault T High 480, also getting new truck vinyls.

The new design of the service truck in national colors is dominated by athletes Michal Krcmar, aiming a small-caliber rifle at the target, and Marketa Davidova with a focused look on her face as she is standing at the starting line.
The traditional national symbol of a lion is also present on the trailer and the trailer truck.

“The previous Volvo trailer truck had already driven almost 500 thousand miles and needed to be replaced. The truck has relatively short travel distances between individual races and then always must stay two weeks in frost or damp. Various components therefore wear out faster than in other semi-trailers which, despite driving hundreds of thousands of extra miles, are constantly in use," explains Martin Zak, one of the drivers of the biathlon special. “We've chosen Renault, which is Volvo’s related brand. It combines the proven quality of Volvo drive units and comfort for the driver, which is delivered by Renault. The trailer truck is equipped with all the safety and environmental innovations.”

The biathlon truck crosses Europe and usually goes to high mountain areas, where drivers will certainly appreciate the fact that, thanks to the aluminum components the trailer truck is lighter, thus reducing fuel consumption and emissions. In addition to electronic uphill lifting assistance systems, the pair of drivers Martin Zak and Veronika Vebrova will be assisted by tyre pressure control sensors and vehicle stability control sensors.

At the beginning of January, the truck went to Oberhof, Germany, and then moved to Anterselva, Italy. Then it will probably head straight to the Slovenian Pokljuka or another nearby centre, where Czechs will prepare for the World Championship, which will take place in Pokljuka. In March it will stay in Nove Mesto na Morave, ending the season in Holmenkollen, Norway.

“The trust of the Czech Biathlon Union is a huge commitment for us, which we want to successfully fulfil with the new trailer truck in the coming years. For such an important cargo, we therefore chose from the best what our fleet can offer. However, even the state-of-the-art electronics cannot replace experienced professionals such as Martin and Veronika behind the wheel. Thanks to both for their work," says Tomas Holomoucky, Managing Director in DB Schenker in the Czech Republic.
