New logistics centre covers an area of 10,500 m2 • Coffee from the distribution centre goes worldwide • DB Schenker one step closer to its customer
International logistic provider DB Schenker is preparing a new logistics warehouse in Valasske Mezirici in cooperation with the ARETE Group. The two new warhouses will provide services for existing customers in the region, coffee producer Jacobs Douwe Egberts, as well as for new projects. The terminal will improve coffee supply chain management and expand DB Schenker's logistics network. The centre is scheduled to be operational in September this year.
DB Schenker's new terminal will be part of the ARETE Industrial Park in Valasske Mezirici.
"We are responding to the relative lack of quality, affordable, complete parks. We are building a state-of-the-art facility with our own team that will meet stringent environmental and long-term sustainability standards. We are delighted that DB Schenker, a leading logistics company, will be the main tenant," said Lubor Svoboda, co-founder of ARETE Group.
The total area comprising halls A and B for the needs of DB Schenker and their customers will be 10,500 m2. 10 ramps will be available for loading and unloading. The halls will be equipped with smart, eco-friendly LED lighting and two induction forklifts will be among the handling equipment in the raw material warehouse. "The terminal is located in a convenient location. The connection to the D48 motorway offers excellent transport links to the main routes to Ostrava, Brno or Poland, as well as to Slovakia. However, the proximity to the operations of our long-term customer was decisive," explained Tomas Holomoucky, Managing Director of DB Schenker in the Czech Republic.
DB Schenker will provide most of the logistics services at the new terminal for its long-standing customer Jacobs Douwe Egberts. The Dutch coffee and tea producer has a factory in Valašské Meziříčí. Until now, the DB Schenker warehouse in nearby Novy Jicin has been used as a distribution warehouse, but the move to the new warehouse will shorten the journey between production and distribution by 15 km. Shuttle transport between the production and distribution centre will operate continuously - 365 days a year, 24 hours a day, seven days a week. In the future, DB Schenker plans to automate the unloading of regular shuttles, reducing truck unloading from the current 30 minutes to 90 seconds. "The Jacobs Douwe Egberts company in Valašské Meziříčí currently produces over 30,000 tonnes of coffee and coffee blends per year, exporting iconic brands such as Jacobs, L´Or, Senseo, Douwe Egberts and others to 25 countries around the world. The factory is located practically in the city, it has no warehouse of the necessary size. Thanks to our long-term cooperation with DB Schenker, we have perfected the idea of a satellite warehouse close to the factory. This will shorten the route between the factory and the current external warehouse, reducing our carbon footprint by 132 t C02 per year. We will also be able to optimise key storage and handling areas inside the factory, increasing safety levels, which is a top priority for us." said Karel Škvain, Director of Jacobs Douwe Egberts.
Coffee and other products will fill 6,000 m2 in the new warehouse. The remaining 4,500 m2 will be available for new customers and partners from the automotive, electronics or consumer sectors operating in the region. The existing warehouse capacity can be expanded by a further 10,000 m2 in the future.
