DB Schenker is expanding the capacity at its terminal in Rudná u Prahy. Nine years ago, the company has opened its administrative building and warehouse there, which is still one of his largest cross-dock terminals in the Czech Republic and now is increasing its capacity by the other 50 %.
The new extension has the area 4,421 m2 and is designed to allow different ways of it´s using. It is primarily intended for cross-dock operations, but depending on market requirements, it allows quickly implementing of value-added customer projects.
Tomáš Holomoucký, CEO DB Schenker in the Czech Republic says: "Our long-term strategy is sustainable growth, efficiency and flexibility of provided services. This planned extension of our existing premises and headquarters in Rudná u Prahy will, among other things, allow us to implement new orders of a larger scale, which we would otherwise have to handle from several locations."
Both warehouses will be operated 24 hours a day, 7 days a week and will offer the whole range of transport and logistics services. The new extension allows to provide customs services and handling with hazardous and flammable goods (ADR). Additionally, thanks to the wide range of electronic elements, the warehouse has very high level of work safety for the employees and external partners, truck drivers etc.
Friendly to employees and environment
Starting with the opening ceremony for existing employees, and their families, the new premises would welcome the other new colleagues, soon. DB Schenker will offer many new jobs in this location, thanks to further planned development. The new building is connected with the existing terminal but has its own infrastructure and backgrounds for the employees including offices. New changing rooms and showers have been built for the operators, and new parking spaces are added outside. The plan is to expand the charging facilities for electrical cars and trucks. This is the clear signal of company support of electromobility.
New building meets TAPA A certification. Even the original terminal and its office part, to which the company moved 9 years ago, stood out with sustainable elements such as lower energy consumption, lower water consumption and intelligent light control. "Following our energy efficiency strategy, we are planning to build the small photovoltaic power plant here with the capacity for our own use. We want to be at least partially self-sufficient facing the unpredictable fluctuations of electricity costs, and keep our services on competitive level," Tomáš Holomoucký says about other plans.
DB Schenker also has its own CNG filling station at this premises. The alternative fuel mainly powers trucks for urban logistics and the significant number of the passenger car fleet. The LNG truck is also being tested here.
