Trainee Program

What can you expect?

Participants in our trainee program gain a broad overview of the various areas of our company. You'll be assigned a variety of different locations and tasks, which brings with it the chance to build up a network, gather technical expertise and ultimately assume responsible for live projects within the company. Special trainee seminars, projects and mentor meetings will help you develop your social, technical and personal skills.

The trainee program generally runs for 2 years, starting each October. Over the course of the program, you'll be assigned to six-month stations in the areas of your choosing

You'll run through three or four half-year stations, with at least one located in Kelsterbach.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Maintenance and monitoring of system traffic, with an eye toward productivity
  • Development, implementation and support for new transport concepts, often in collaboration with other central departments
  • Preparation/implementation of an optimal workflow with the other offices
  • Composition of calls for bids, incl. revenue estimates, costing, preparation of bid documents and elaboration of transport concepts
  • Participation in projects involving process topics in the areas of dispatching and container terminals
  • Preparation and execution of technical seminars
  • Adoption of processes at DB Schenker offices/operative departments, development of streamlining measures and implementation in cooperation with the technical departments

You'll run through three or four half-year stations, with at least one located in Kelsterbach/Frankfurt. You can look forward to multi-week deployments to other European countries.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Assignments in the areas of JETcargo, Eurohub, product management and Tradelane Development
  • Familiarization with daily business, independent work, adoption of special projects
  • Intensive engagement in IT systems, organizational structures and processes from the operative air freight business
  • Familiarization with P/L statements, controlling and budget processes
  • Independent management of a Tradelane project
  • Active role in the ongoing development of a product strategy

You'll run through three or four half-year stations, with at least one located in Kelsterbach.

Your responsibilities will be in the fields of LCL and FCL Export. These include the following tasks:

  • Supply planning, booking of ship space, generation of shipments in the IT system,
  • Customer support,
  • Contact with DB Schenker offices, Schenker agents and shipping lines in Germany and abroad
  • Preparation of customs documents, generation and review of BL documents
  • Processing of hazardous goods shipments and credit operations
  • LCL only: Planning and coordination of goods pick-up from customer by Schenker Landverkehre

You'll run through three or four half-year stations, with at least one located in Kelsterbach near Frankfurt.

You'll acquire insights into the fields of planning, realization and reorganization of stationary and integrated logistics solutions related to contract logistics. You'll support project managers, including in the implementation and reorganization of logistics projects within Germany.

Your responsibilities will include the following tasks:

  • Auditing and streamlining of processes
  • Creation and adjustment of implementation plans
  • Implementation costing
  • Review of conceptual design of logistics solutions
  • Customized layout planning and technology (material flow/IT)
  • Management of projects tasks (time, workflow and cost planning) and the flow of information
  • Performance analysis for action steps, including lessons learned
  • Initiation of optimization processes
  • Preparatory and follow-up work for meetings and presentations

During the first year you'll be placed in various departments at the headquarters in Kelsterbach. During the second year, you'll be stationed at a DB Schenker location or a trade fair in Germany.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Needs-based support for the product coordinator (trade fair logistics, distribution, special transport, relocation logistics, artwork logistics)
  • Participation in calls for bids, processing of customer queries, participation in customer meetings, preparation of presentations, generation of bid documents and costing
  • Participation in internal Schenker projects, organizational and topical preparation of congresses/workshop
  • Individual deployment to a Schenker location for each product area - familiarization with operative jobs

You'll run through three or four half-year stations, with at least one located in a central department at Kelsterbach near Frankfurt.

Your responsibilities will include the following tasks:

  • Support for the design of sales strategy and preparation of the sales plan for the Germany/Switzerland cluster
  • Participation in the design, execution and assessment of sales campaigns
  • Support for Key Account Management in preparations for customer meetings and processing of project business
  • Management of global RFQ in Tender Management, accounting for all relevant stakeholders
  • Execution of market & customer analyses, analysis of transport data in conjunction with optimization of distributions strategy
  • Support in the establishment of reports and individual dashboards

You'll run through three or four half-year stations, with at least one located in a central department at Kelsterbach near Frankfurt.

As part of your professional training in the IT department, you'll be assigned tasks in the areas of IT project management and IT architecture.

Your responsibilities will include the following tasks:

  • In the area of IT project management:
  • Support for our IT project director and adoption of own IT sub-projects
  • Recording and definition of IT requirements for our customers
  • Development and generation of implementation concept and project planning documents
  • Implementation of own IT sub-projects and support for IT project director in general project management
  • Creation of economic efficiency documents

In the area of IT architecture:

  • Active participation in IT projects and engagement in implementation of IT initiatives within various IT departments at Schenker Deutschland AG
  • Recording, structuring and evaluation of software solutions
  • Analysis of current technology and innovation trends and derivation of potential for improvements within our business fields
  • Participation in analysis and evaluation of IT applications and consulting for internal customers on software solutions
  • Composition of solution concepts for customer requirements related to our IT landscape
  • Implementation of customer solutions on the available platforms
  • Documentation of solutions and updates to instructions on the use of platforms for internal and external customers

You'll run through three or four half-year stations, with at least one located in a central department at Kelsterbach near Frankfurt.

Your responsibilities

  • Support and consulting for managers, employees and employee representatives on HR-related topics
  • Processing of new and departing employees (such as generation of contracts, terminations, severance pay)
  • Application management for your field
  • Support for HR staff in execution of salary and wage calculation
  • Generation of statistics related to HR controlling
  • Preparation of cases involving labor law
  • Archiving, management and administration of electronic personnel files

What skills do you need?

  • Very good grades for a higher vocational college/dual study institution, polytechnic university or university (Bachelor or Masters degree) or from the German Foreign Trade and Transport Academy (DAV)
  • Relevant practical experience through training programs or internships
  • Goal orientation and ability to work independently
  • Very good German and good English skills, experience abroad preferable
  • Social and communications skills
  • Mobility and flexibility
