Leading The Way Challenge
For 150 years, we have been advancing lives by shaping how the world connects. Driving innovation, connecting communities, and shaping a sustainable future to make the world a better place. That’s what we call elevating lives. In our anniversary year, we want to push this with our company challenge to a new dimension and lead the way – be a role model – for a greater good.
We move for a greater good.
Every move counts in 2022! We will refund each kilometer of our activities with 1 cent and donate it to carefully selected organizations, dedicated to charitable causes in connection with the topic of sustainability. Our employees will have the chance to accumulate a total amount of up to 1.5 million euro (corresponding to ~150 million km) during 2022 to elevate our planet.
To reach our big target of collecting 1,5 million euros, we set up quarterly challenge stages of 375,000 euros. Our active km will be counted within an App through physical and mental activities like running, walking, cycling or simply answering questions. For all kilometers accumulated, we will donate a maximum amount of 375,000 euros each quarter to support one charity organization that is linked to our overarching quarterly topics earth, water, air, and people.
150 years ago we started an incredible journey. And we still are on our way.
Since our first shipment in 1872 the world of logistics has changed dramatically. Our People at DB Schenker, have always been major drivers for these changes. And they are still today.
So we are continuously working on new technologies, services and ideas to keep the supply chains of our customers moving in the most efficient and sustainable way.
By doing so, we meet our customers increasing demands for sustainable logistics and focus on reducing the overall environmental impact of our services, to make everyone’s life a little bit better.
We´re still on the way, but the best is yet to come.
Throughout the year, we are holding regional anniversary events for our employees, customers, and partners. The focus of our celebrations will be a company give-back challenge where through employee involvement, DB Schenker will donate up to 1.5 million Euros to four charities over four quarters. The themed program is called, ‘Leading the Way Challenge’. Employees will download a customized program app and through physical activity challenges and challenging mind games with in-app quizzes, they earn points which go towards one of the four charity organizations.

In our anniversary year, we want to push this pioneering spirit to a new dimension by driving innovation, shaping a sustainable future, and connecting communities.
Leading the way to a more connected and sustainable world
It started out in 1872 when Gottfried Schenker, who founded Schenker & Co. in Vienna, offered the first consolidated rail shipments from Paris to Vienna. For one and a half centuries, the men and women of DB Schenker have dedicated themselves to helping our customers in the exchange of goods to and from anywhere in the world. So much has changed in the world during this period. But what has not changed, is the commitment of our more than 72,700 employees worldwide to provide our customers a full range of logistics and transportation services to meet their ever-changing needs.
History provides us with a sense of identity. Better understanding who we are, where we have come from and where we are going, can help create the future. As one of the world’s leading global logistics provider, DB Schenker is committed to creating the future by elevating the lives of everyone we work with. Elevate is a transitive verb. It means to exalt, lift up, and improve in any number of ways, from intellectually to physically, financially to morally. And whenever we talk about ‘elevating lives,’ we talk about how we can better elevate ourselves as a company, individual, and community.
With reference to the situation in Ukraine and the extreme increases and fluctuations in fuel prices which developed, we informed in March 2022, that we were forced to change from monthly adjustment of our fuel surcharge to temporarily adjusting twice per month.
No one can be good at everything. Or can they? DB Schenker is a full-service provider, meaning we offer everything from land transport to ocean freight, air freight and warehousing.
DB Schenker has had a strong start in the Nordics as a new cluster
DB Schenker had a new start in the Nordic countries on 1 April 2023, when countries were united under one management. CEO Petteri Nurmi is pleased with the results.
