As a cooperation partner for the three-year logistics program at the STA, DB Schenker ensures that graduates are provided with high quality technical and vocational training. This program reflects a “Dual Approach": two complementary learning and training tracks that take place in the school and in the company. It ultimately qualifies students to be employed as warehouse logistics specialists – either with a logistics company or an industrial firm – or to enroll for a relevant university degree according to German law. The logistics apprenticeship program sponsored by Schenker Egypt is a real-life example of our purpose statement... "... The program will not only help create opportunities for the talented young kids and their families, it also helps us to have an upscaled workforce, providing a unique market edge amongst our competitors and other corporates. It gives me immense happiness to be at the heart of the Egyptian community, contributing to its sustainable development.” - Mr. Khaled Morsy, CEO Schenker Egypt LTD. The German dual system of “Technical and Vocational Education and Training” (TVET) is aligned with the Egyptian educational system, which means that graduates will receive both the local Ministry of Education (MoE) certificate of technical secondary school education and a German TVET degree. For the academic year 2019, DB Schenker Egypt has sponsored more than 40 students. This includes free education and complimentary resources, such as learning materials, tablet computers, free transportation to the school, meals and medical coverage, as well as a monthly training allowance. By 2020, the organization plans to sponsor a total of approximately 100 students. To empower women and promote gender equality, about 50% of the students enrolled by DB Schenker Egypt each year are females. At DB Schenker we are enthusiastic about helping young individuals to live up to their ambitions. In Cairo, Egypt, my colleagues therefore initiated a free-of-charge logistics program together with El-Sewedy Technical Academy. The education program is based on the German vocational training model and follows a dual approach of both practical and theoretical content. The apprenticeship gives students the chance either to enroll for a relevant and suitable university degree, or to be employed directly as logistics specialists in a logistics provider company or in an industrial company. Congratulations to the first almost 50 students already enrolled in the program!
