The logistics of tomorrow and the infrastructure of the future – DB at "transport logistic" in Munich

Deutsche Bahn to showcase itself at the leading international trade fair • Innovations from DB Schenker and DB Cargo that are transforming logistics • Innovative digital infrastructure for reliable rail transport.

Deutsche Bahn will be showcasing itself with DB Schenker, DB Cargo, DB Netz and DB Heavy Maintenance at the at the leading international trade fair "transport logistic" in Munich from May 9 to 12. With the theme of "Moving Logistics," 23 competence centers will exhibit their logistics solutions over some 1,200 square meters with the emphasis on digital technology. The innovations DB Schenker and DB Cargo are developing for their customers include intelligent containers and use of mobile devices to enhance the management and capacity utilization of freight transport by road and rail. Visitors will be able to explore a wealth of visual and hands-on exhibits, such as the robots that keep automated warehouses working.

"At 'transport logistic' we will be showing what the future of digital logistics will look like and how we are working proactively to shape it all around the world as one of the leading companies in both transport and contract logistics," said Jochen Thewes, CEO of Schenker AG. In the outdoor area, the DB Schenker show truck will be on hand to introduce Drive4Schenker. The platform launched in February 2017. It enables users to arrange orders for land transport and track them in real time, all using a convenient online system. Drive4Schenker directly connects truck drivers and freight. Some 30,000 transport partners in 20 countries will be able to find out where additional freight is waiting for transport along their route and fill spare capacity immediately.

DB Schenker will also be presenting innovative technologies for contract logistics, such as fully automated e-commerce solutions using self-driving robots. The DB Schenker Enterprise Lab for Logistics and Digitization in Dortmund is also presenting its innovations.

Digital solutions along every section of the transport chain are equally central to DB Cargo: sending a container by rail is easy with the "Box2Rail" portal offered by TFG Transfracht, the specialist in seaport hinterland services. "myRailportal" then provides an overview before and after the transport along with enhanced customer communication. The service is based in part on intelligent vehicles that report information and IT solutions with which DB Cargo can analyze such data for customers in the European network.

"With all these innovations, we want to show our customers the ambition, dependability and energy we bring to rail transport. We are looking forward to welcoming all the visitors and having some great conversations," said Dr. Jürgen Wilder, CEO of DB Cargo.

DB Netz AG will present the future of rail infrastructure with co-exhibitors DUSS and DB Energie. The infrastructure of tomorrow will include European rail freight corridors equipped with points and other equipment that can communicate via sensors, and with diagnostics systems that use microphones to keep vehicle keepers informed. Disruption in the network will be resolved more rapidly, often before it impacts on trains. "This will ensure reliable rail services and make this mode of transport even more attractive for passengers and freight transport," said Dr. Thomas Schaffer, Head of Sales and Timetabling at DB Netz AG. Visitors to the stand will be able to test the exhibits in a "customer journey."

DB Heavy Maintenance will also be presenting its services at the event, including overhauling of rail vehicles, modernization and component overhaul work.

Top DB managers will speak in numerous forums and events, including Jochen Thewes, CEO of Schenker AG, Jürgen Wilder, CEO of DB Cargo, and DB Netz CEO Dr. Thomas Schaffer. More than 70 experts from DB Schenker and DB Cargo representing the various industries and product areas will be available in Hall B6 on Stand 209/310. DB Netz and DB Heavy Maintenance can also be found in Hall B6, at Stands 107/208 and 408.

Each of the four days of the trade fair will see different highlights at the DB stand. On the opening day, May 9, Jochen Thewes will present the DB Schenker Award at 4:00 pm. A little earlier, at 2:00 pm, Dr. Jürgen Wilder will give interested journalists an introduction to the new era of DB Cargo and present digital solutions for vehicles and automated train formation, as well as new customer portals such as "myRailportal." On May 10, Jochen Thewes, CEO of Schenker AG, Ewald Kaiser, COO, Markus Sontheimer, CIO/CDO, and Mike Williams, CEO of uShip will demonstrate "Drive4Schenker" in the show truck parked in the outdoor area.

School pupils, students and professionals can find out about professional training and career opportunities at the DB Group over the entire duration of the trade fair.
