    Your tasks

    The Freight Forwarding Apprentice is responsible to participate in the two-year learning/work program through Harper Community College and DB Schenker. A freight forwarding apprentice will assist to organize shipments to move goods from the Schenker Shippers to end customers or final point of distribution. Apprentices will rotate through all relevant department in Airfreight / Ocean Freight and Customs Brokerage. The Apprentice will attain an Associates Degree with a department of Labor Certification. Upon successful completion of the Program the Apprentice employee will be placed in the Branch or Operations Center Air/Ocean or Brokerage. Tasks & Responsibilities:

    • Meet with Harper Student Apprentice Coaches and DB Schenker mentors for updates and guidance throughout the program.
    • Attend to all required college classes and DB Schenker training.
    • Responsible to participate in the assignment rotations assigned by DB Schenker management.
    • Assist and learn the task to prepare and assemble all documents as necessary for imports and exports.
    • Assist and learn to prepare, route, and cut air bills and manifests.
    • Assist and learn to correct billings and issue debit and credit memos for customers
    • Assist and learn how to arrange for pick up and movement of freight to gateways.
    • Assist and learn to expedite inbound import traffic to facilitate customs clearance
    • Assist and learn to Initiate and maintain customer master profiles to have correction information on hand in order to offer consistent service
    • Assist and learn to Key in U.S. Customs entry line items into the Import CHB Computer System and submit entry to customs
    • Assist and learn to communicate information and instructions to/from vendors
    • Assist and learn how to help research and resolve operational problems.
    • Other Duties as assigned. Deliverables & Achievables:
    • Passing of Harper College Logistics Classes
    • Completion of rotational Training Plan Chicago Branch and Operations Center
    • Attain Department of Labor Certification

    Details/Specification/Explanation of the role specific skills This is an entry-level position. Good interpersonal skills required. High school diploma or equivalent required.
