Safety and Efficiency in Remote Logistics in Indonesia: A DB SCHENKER Case Study
Challenges faced in Indonesia
Getting items to remote areas in Indonesia presents significant obstacles for businesses due to steep terrains, limited infrastructure, and other logistical complexities. Particularly in remote areas, there is an insufficient road network which contributes to delays and inefficiencies in logistics operations. The complexity also necessitates coordinating activities between different stakeholders, leading to challenges in synchronization and process optimization.
One of our global telecommunications customers faced these obstacles in their logistics operations. Their priority was to ensure the safety of the team and goods while efficiently and punctually delivering telecom equipment for an antenna system to an extremely challenging terrain. To tackle these challenges, they engaged with DB SCHENKER Indonesia Land Transport team. Our extensive network of local partners and experience with the conditions on the ground allowed our team to create a tailored land solution.
Our solution
We carefully evaluated the equipment and the truck to ensure they were suitable for the challenging journey ahead through dense jungle and steep hills. The goods had to be transported through muddy roads, by motorbike, and on foot. This posed physical challenges for the logistics team. Ultimately, after 9 hours, the team successfully delivered the antenna equipment to the designated site.
Working with local partners
For this project, we worked with local partners to supervise the shipments and provide on-ground support. The collaboration not only ensured that the telecom equipment reached its destination on time but also optimized the handling process, ensuring the goods are secured and undamaged.
Conclusion
With projects of this nature, we help to improve access to telecom services, including internet connectivity, in some of the most remote areas of the country. We are happy to be part of this project, contributing to the betterment of the rural areas in the country.
