New Land Transport products and network setup links whole Europe with 430 DB Schenker branches in 38 European countries • High performance including a new guaranteed product being introduced across Europe
A more rapid exchange of goods in Europe: DB Schenker – the integrated transport and logistics services provider – has further strengthened its European Land Transport network and introduced two new pan-European products for system freight.
Effective immediately, all European business centers are now linked with one another through daily connections. This will enable more rapid goods distribution and thus greater production flexibility at European companies. Furthermore the customers can now choose between two easy-to-use products that are standardized across Europe: DB SCHENKERsystem and DB SCHENKERsystem premium.
“DB SCHENKERsystem is the best solution if companies want to move their freight fast and with high reliability throughout Europe; it is our new standard product,” says Christian Drenthen, Executive Vice President, Head of Land Transport at DB Schenker. “If speed is crucial, DB SCHENKERsystem premium is the new solution for European companies: Customers will be able to use the fastest road network and take advantage of industry leading reliability - with performance guarantee!”
In addition, the new network setup, which seamlessly connects DB Schenker’s existing 430 land-transport locations in 38 European countries with a state-of-the-art production system, is designed to accommodate the growing demand for cross-border shipments. Lead times between major European business centers will be significantly reduced as a result; in some cases lead times are already as low as 24 hours.
“We are creating a Europe without borders for freight transport in an environment marked by an ever more heavily-connected European economy with increasing just-in-time production requirements,” says Christian Drenthen. “We’re pleased that our faster lead times are allowing us to make a major contribution toward increasing our customers’ productivity and efficiency.”
300,000 consignments per day for European companies
The integrated transport and logistics services provider has set up daily line-haul connections between all major European cities. In its capacity as the biggest land transport services provider, DB Schenker is able to consolidate freight shipments, and the use of a new platform strategy also enables the company to significantly reduce transport times and thus CO2 emissions.
More than 20,000 employees in the new pan-European groupage network are helping companies all over Europe do business with one another. These employees manage approximately 300,000 consignments per day and more than 30,000 line-haul connections per week in Europe. Thanks to state-of-the-art tracking technology, the status of each consignment can also be monitored from any place at any time.
In logistics, System Freight refers to all goods that can be loaded as individual pieces – e.g. boxes, crates, pallets loaded with machines or factory components, cable, paper, sheet-metal rolls and reels, and barrels. DB Schenker’s network of line-haul shipments and hubs extends across the entire European continent, which means that all vehicles can be used to full capacity in the most productive manner possible.
