New “build to suit” premises for DB Schenker’s Bologna Branch

Works have been completed for the construction of the new “build to suit” facility at the Interporto of Bologna, an important operational hub for the Italian network of DB Schenker.

With an overall investment volume of more than 10 million euro, the new facility, officially operating since the beginning of September, is a modern A Class building that expands upon a covered area equipped with 11,000 square meters of warehouses and 90 loading docks, 2,600 sqm offices and 22,000 sqm of external service area.

The building has been built according to TAPA A (Transported Asset Protection Association) requirements. Furthermore, environmental protection and energy efficiency has been central to the construction planning: the building has been developed in order to obtain BREEAM (Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method) environmental certification, being equipped with a Building Management System, full LED lighting, solar panels, high standard insulation cladding and windows and rainwater re‐cycling.

The new facility (same as the former headquarters of Bologna branch) benefits from the modern Interporto infrastructure, one of the largest logistics and intermodal platforms (road and rail) in Europe that boasts an excellent position along the national and European freight traffic routes.

“This investment highlights how seriously we take the increasing demand for top quality facilities and services in the logistics and freight forwarding market” says Federico Girgenti CEO of Schenker Italiana S.p.A. “The new premises will improve further our productivity and efficiency whilst also fitting with our commitment to be the eco-pioneer in our field, that is a central part of our DB 2020 Group strategy”.

DB Schenker is present in Italy with 31 branches and about 140,000 square meters of warehouses and offers land, sea and air transport services as well as integrated logistics solutions and supply chain management.
