Our APAC team has made incredible contributions to society this year so far. In March, Schenker Singapore volunteers offered to take underprivileged families to KidZania for a day. KidZania is an indoor theme park for children. This gave families the time and space to bond, relax, and have a good time without having to stress over the costs.
In April, 14 Schenker employees from Shanghai visited the “Shanghai Baby’s Home”, a foster care center for orphaned and abandoned children with special needs. Our volunteers accompanied the children and supported the staff with any help they needed. In addition, the employees crafted bear dolls to sell with the proceeds going towards charity.
On top of that our Singapore team visited Cambodia for their annual “Building Cambodia” trip. In partnership with the Operation Hope Foundation, DB Schenker employees helped by bringing aid to families living below the international poverty line. The village the Schenker team decided to visit was one of the poorest in Cambodia. Our volunteers built houses, upgraded facilities, distributed food and provided games for the children.
In 2017, DB Schenker employees in Hanoi had already visited children affected by HIV/AIDS in and decided that a “Library of Love” should be created for the children. Employees of DB Schenker willingly contributed towards the library via cash donations and salary reductions. Many employees donated new and used books, magazines, and more reading material. The “Library of Love” is now there for the children to use for both pleasure and their educational development.
In June 2018, DB Schenker employees made a second visit to the children. During this trip, the employees made use of the library, they read stories to the children and took the time to provide a training for the children to teach them skills on how to prevent sexual harassment. The contributions from the DB Schenker employees have made a huge difference to these children’s lives.
All these contributions of time, goods and money from the DB Schenker employees in Asia have made a huge difference to these children’s lives.
