Step 4: Label and Mark
Clearly and correctly identifying your shipments is important for ensuring that your goods are transported quickly across our network. Below are some key points to take into account:
The main purpose of supplying the correct protection for shipments is to prevent damage to the goods during handling and transport while also ensuring the safety of the people handling them.
Any package weighing more than 30 kg is considered a heavy load and must be packed in a reinforced cardboard or wooden box on a base or pallet that will allow for it to be handled automatically. Pallets are the most commonly used standard loading base for transporting consolidated shipments by road.
An adequate goods description ensures smoothcustoms clearance, timely release by the authorities and compliance with regulations (excise goods). In certain countries such as Hungary (EKAER), Poland (SENT) and the United Kingdom (IPAFFS), pre-declaration is also required. In addition, detailed descriptions help with careful physical handling and prevent damage and contamination during transportation and storage.
Correct shipment data is the basis for processing shipments throughout the network in a reliable way. Progressing digitalization in transport planning requires accurate shipment data for loading space calculation and route planning.
Dangerous goods are substances and articles that may cause damage to life, health, property or the environment if not handled correctly during transport.
