Job Overview
This role is responsible for developing and managing the worker’s compensation programs for U.S. Land. Duties include the development and management of a worker’s compensation program to respond to and mitigate our exposure from job injuries, engaging and managing the Third-Party Administrator’s handling of our claims, engaging and managing third party support services, evaluating and adjusting reserves on files, overseeing the intake of workers compensation claims, performing investigations, developing and managing a return-to-work program, overseeing litigation and pre-suit resolutions, pursuing subrogation on claims as appropriate, reporting on key metrics to track the performance of this program, and identifying, hiring and managing the support staff necessary to support this program. Routinely works with Third Party Administrator and other departments to ensure detailed investigations are completed and the best outcomes are obtained on behalf of the company.
What will you enjoy doing (duties/tasks)
- Develop, implement and manage the necessary processes, procedures, standards, and controls for the worker’s compensation claims for US Land
- Lead, develop and oversee the daily activities for the implementation of the worker’s compensation programs
- Develop data, metrics, and reporting necessary to track the performance of our programs
- Ensure all reporting required by any governmental agency is timely and accurately completed
- Partner with and support the safety and operations teams in their efforts to reduce the amount and severity of our job injuries
- Manage multi-jurisdictional workers’ compensation inventory in adherence to Best Practices
- Develop and execute strategies to efficiently manage file inventory, pursue timely release-to work, and achieve optimal resolutions while maximizing cost effectiveness
- Establish and maintain reserves, detailed investigation, litigation, and medical documentation on each claim to achieve optimal payout and closure of inventory
- Negotiate and resolve claims by developing litigation strategies and directing defense counsel and 3rd party administrator on action plan
- Develop and maintain effective relationships with customers, colleagues, and business partners to achieve goals and successful claim outcomes
- Serve as a liaison with our 3rd party administrator to ensure files are appropriately managed
- Submit monthly/quarterly payment documentation to excess carriers for reimbursements, as necessary.
- Maintain data integrity for end-of-year OSHA reporting.
What you need to succeed (Qualifications, experience, skills, attributes)
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent working experience
- 7+ years relevant workers compensation experience, including oversight of return-to-work programs, management of TPAs and experience in investigating claims and setting reserves
- Workers Compensation Adjuster License or ability to obtain with 120 days of hire required
- Experience developing and leading teams preferred but not required
- Competent in the Microsoft Office Suite
