The semiconductor industry plays a critical role in powering the digital world we live in today. With the exponential growth of connected devices, the demand for semiconductors has skyrocketed, making Asia the dominant hub for semiconductor production. Currently, approximately 80% of semiconductors are manufactured in Asia, showcasing the region's significance in this industry.

Logistics Challenges and Innovations

Simultaneously, the semiconductor industry is confronted with numerous supply chain hurdles. Rising environmental regulations and growing consumer demands for reduced pollution and greenhouse gas emissions are driving stakeholders in the logistics sector to adapt and innovate, embracing green infrastructure and electric fleets. Ms. Nadine Kay B. Perez, Officer-in-Charge/Zone Manager of the Laguna International Industrial Park Special Economic Zone, Philippine Economic Zone Authority (PEZA), delivered a presentation focusing on local industry trends, challenges, and updates from PEZA. PEZA is a government agency created under the Special Economic Zone Act of 1995 to promote investments, generate employment, and grow exports. With 420 ecozones hosting various industries, including IT parks, manufacturing, agro-industrial parks, tourism parks, and medical tourism zones, PEZA attracts a diverse range of businesses. The electronics and semiconductor sectors have the highest investments, particularly from Japanese companies.

Mr. Patrick Espallardo from the Philippines Bureau of Customs talked about the new Authorized Economic Operator (AEO) requirements and how businesses can apply. With, so far, only three AEO accredited companies in the country, this is a burning gamechanger for the vertical market players.
