Jul 17, 2020 DB Schenker in Luxembourg expands activities in new logistics center Distribution center with over 7,000 square meters creates capacity for 100 jobsDB Schenker in Luxembourg is expanding its activities near the cargo center at Luxembourg Airport, which is one of Europe’s major airports. The new logistics center to be built there will be linked to the European and global DB Schenker network, with direct connections to all major consumer markets. The new distribution will have a size of over 7,000 square meters and creates capacity for 100 jobs. “As we continue to expand, DB Schenker decided to look for a new site to build a logistics center near Luxembourg Airport,” says Emile Goossens, Chief Financial Officer at Schenker Logistics Benelux. “After working closely with the Luxembourg government and our real estate partner WDP, a new site was found in the Eurohub Center at Contern. The premises will be built in accordance with high sustainability standards and offer space for a total staff of 100 employees.”“Our new terminal will allow us to offer a complete service portfolio along the entire supply chain,” says Axel Quadt, Managing Director of Schenker Luxemburg GmbH. “The new facility will enable us to increase the capacity of loading and unloading units for air freight shipments. Additionally, we will be able to further expand our value-added and groupage services with full connections to the Schenker network.”DB Schenker has been active in Luxembourg since 1989 and has recorded solid growth since then, offering reliable and high-quality worldwide services. After starting off in Luxembourg as an air freight hub, the logistics company successfully expanded its activities to include ocean freight, land transport, and logistics services. Schenker Logistics BeNeLux invests in modern sites in which all activities can be facilitated in an efficient manner.WDP Luxembourg will develop a new distribution center with an area of approximately 15,000 m² in the Eurohub Center logistics zone at Contern. Logistics services provider DB Schenker will lease around 7,000 m² for a ten-year period. Plans call for operational activities to begin in the fourth quarter of 2021, subject to successful completion of the approval process. WDP Luxembourg plans to invest more than €18 million in the project.
