Logistics expertise for consumer electronics: DB Schenker supplies LG with distribution network from Poland to Germany

DB Schenker provides international distribution of groupage shipments for LG Electronics in what will be a long-term partnership • The first half-year of the new partnership has been successfully completed

For more than half a year now, DB Schenker has been cooperating with LG Electronics, one of the world’s most well-known brands in the electronics industry and a world-renowned manufacturer of home entertainment, home appliance, mobile communications, and business solution products. The logistics operator delivers electronics and household appliances to the German market from the customer's distribution center near Wroclaw in Poland.

During the first six months of this successful partnership, a total of 900 trucks transported a variety of innovative and smart consumer products each week – ranging from TVs and soundbars to refrigerators and washing machines. The key goal of this partnership is to ensure a smooth uninterrupted delivery process within the framework of DB Schenker's groupage network and with support from DB Schenker's 42 land terminals in Germany. Here, all different types of orders are accommodated with guaranteed flexibility.

Almost everything DB Schenker does requires the use of some type of equipment manufactured by the electronics industry. The industry itself is developing dynamically, rolling out a large number of innovative ideas that are designed to make life easier for companies and consumers. The Internet of Things (IoT), automation, and the 5G network will generate additional momentum for the sector and create new digital opportunities. These developments will also streamline production processes and enable a more rapid response to customer requirements, whereby the role of logistics here is to ensure a well-functioning supply chain.

“The DB Schenker logistics network is one of the largest in Europe and is capable of handling these growing volumes in an efficient manner,” says Piotr Zborowski, CEO North & East Europe at DB Schenker. “We offer our customers a consistently high level of quality, even when confronted with a high variability of orders – and thanks to our advanced IT systems, we are increasing the transparency of the entire supply chain.”

The project conducted for LG Electronics represents one of the largest general cargo operations for DB Schenker in Europe. A very important consideration from the customer’s point of view relates to the safety of goods and their delivery on time and in exact accordance with the requirements stipulated in the order in question.

“Because of the large volume involved, DB Schenker suggested rolling out a fully dedicated and dynamic supply chain management system, with advance planning of transportation,” explains Marcin Bryjak, Key Account Manager at DB Schenker in Poland. “We make use of our extensive experience in handling shipments from the electronics industry and we also use all the information technology that’s available. We provide the customer with complete information on shipments within the international groupage network, including realtime information on delivery statuses and immediate responses to possible deviations.”

DB Schenker operates an extensive network of transport connections between Poland and Germany, which reflects the increasing flow of goods between the two countries. The logistics services provider offers its customers 16 regular daily line connections for imports and exports. All general cargo transports here are carried out using swap bodies (BDF), which ensures high flexibility and fast service for customers.
