Electronic data interchange

There are many advantages with exchanging transport information electronically. Among other things, more secure transfer of transport information, better customer service and lower transport costs.

By using EDI, you can create new possibilities for smart transport and logistics solutions thanks to a high degree of automation, reduced error frequency and increased clarity.

EDI (Electronic Data Interchange) is an electronic exchange of structured and standardized messages which enables two independent data systems to communicate together.

With EDI you can:

  • Schedule pickup and receive a booking confirmation
  • Order transport/transfer transport instructions
  • Get status on your shipments
  • Get an electronic invoice

All AB Schenker's EDI management is based on the EDIFACT standard.

EDI consolidation codes 

As a customer, you can use EDI for a range of different information exchange tasks with us. The messages we support are described below.
Specifications for each message are in DB Schenker's Recommendations for Product Labeling and Information Transfer (AGI) that you can gain access to by submitting an request.

Booking (IFTMBF)

Through this message, you can schedule ion of goods and packages for further transport. This is considered a reservation of space in our transport resources. The booking may contain preliminary information about weight, volume, number of packages, etc.

Booking confirmation (IFTMBC)

This message is a confirmation that DB Schenker has received your booking.

Transport instruction (IFTMIN)

The transport instruction is the definitive transport order and contains all information necessary to facilitate land transport. This information also allow you to, for example, search for your shipment and follow up on your transport invoice.

Transport status (IFTSTA)

The message means that you can continually get the status of your shipments automatically each time a new event occurs instead of you having to check it manually.

Invoice (INVOIC)

With the message INVOIC you get a completely specified e-invoice as often as you receive paper invoices. The differences is that you get e-invoice one day earlier since you eliminate the mail service. Since the e-invoice contains all information that is needed to use this for payment, you can shut off your ordinary paper invoice and in that way do something good for the environment.

To send electronic transport orders and create transport documents such as labels and freight bills, we always recommend using our certified and approved Transport Administration System (TA system).
