Inventing the digitized warehouse
Two industry leaders have teamed up to foster innovative technologies in a real-life environment.
DB Schenker and Cisco, the worldwide leader in networking for the internet, are collaborating to change the face of the logistics industry. The companies are working together to develop, test, and implement various applications around the internet of things and other innovative technologies for logistics.
"We’re excited about working with the best companies in the world, like DB Schenker, to truly change the way we move and store goods globally. These kinds of collaborations will allow us to dramatically improve the way we do logistics and, we hope, will allow us to improve logistics around the world."
Both companies have joined forces to examine technologies that unleash new opportunities to optimize warehouse and transportation processes. In Houston, Texas, a joint innovation lab is open and set up in real life environment, to test and commercialize cutting edge technologies in the area of sensor-based solutions, real-time locationing systems, robotics and automation, smart devices or augmented reality. Applications and products are thoroughly tested by DB Schenker employees on site, such as digital signage: displaying a digital dashboard enables monitoring of important KPIs with focus on warehouse operations, transportation processes and overall supply chain management.
During the trial phase, the team assesses both technical feasibility and the value proposition within a warehousing and supply chain environment. A couple of applications already had been tested and implemented – you find videos to explore the newest technologies on a regular basis at our corporate YouTube channel:
