Recently, the AS-RS Automated Building C in DB SCHENKER’s Pinghu Logistics Center has been awarded the highest honor of LEED – the Platinum certification – for its various designs and initiatives promoting sustainable development in construction and the environment. This certification is testament to DB SCHENKER's continuous efforts in sustainable development.
The Pinghu Logistics Center comprises of two-story buildings A and B, and the AS-RS automated building C. In September this year, both buildings A and B earned LEED Gold certification. The automated building C also secured the highest Platinum certification with a score of 83 points, following a year-long evaluation by LEED.
As a significant part of the Pinghu Logistics Center to integrate high efficiency, automation and intelligence, the AS-RS automated building C spans 3,600 sqm, with a height of 21m – capable of storing 8,100 pallets. It boasts advantages such as high space utilization, efficient labor productivity, and low logistics costs, contributing to the construction of environmentally-friendly logistics facilities.
Building an efficient and energy-saving operating environment
The automated building C integrates double-deep pallet racks, stacker cranes, conveyor systems, automated control systems, and warehouse management systems. Besides significantly eliminating workload and risks for employees through unmanned operations in the warehouse area, automations implemented also effectively reduces energy consumption through measures such as optimizing grid coordination.
Constructing a green and low-carbon logistics center
The automated building C also allows for precise tracking and monitoring system for water usage and a new air system to improve indoor air quality. These initiatives are aimed at reducing emissions, optimizing operations, and creating sustainable logistics. Additionally, should DB SCHENKER increase the deployment of its new energy vehicles, the Pinghu Logistics Center is able to provide charging stations. These initiatives can help to continuously build a sustainable and eco-friendly distribution network.
Creating an inclusive and comfortable workplace
Providing a diverse and inclusive workplace has always been a significant part of DB SCHENKER’s sustainable development strategy. The Pinghu Logistics Center is conveniently located for easy accessibility via public transportation, allowing employees to choose low-carbon commuting options and fostering a more sustainable work and lifestyle attitude.
Cindy Cao, Head of Area East & Area North, Senior Vice President at DB SCHENKER Greater China: "The Pinghu Logistics Center has always responded quickly to the logistics demands of the East China region, especially the Yangtze River Delta Economic Circle, with more advanced and complete infrastructure and service capabilities. We are thankful to have gotten LEED's recognition for the Pinghu Logistics Center. We will continue developing logistics that are good for people, our planet, and our partners. With Sustainable Logistics as a guiding principle for our business, we strive to conduct our business with the smallest ecological footprint possible, with comprehensive fairness, exemplary governance and with the vision to create a sustainable business for the next generations.”
Wayne Xie, Head of Contract Logistics, Vice President at DB SCHENKER Logistics Greater China: "Within three months, the Pinghu Logistics Center has successively obtained LEED Gold and Platinum certifications, affirming the efforts of all employees and partners involved in the project. In the future, we will continue to strive to build a green and low-carbon logistics system in line with industry trends, fulfilling our social responsibilities effectively."
About LEED Certification
The LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) rating system is a set of environmental protection and energy-saving indicators established by the U.S. Green Building Council. Among various global sustainability rating systems for green buildings, the LEED is recognized as the most comprehensive and influential one. It evaluates buildings in seven dimensions: location and transportation, sustainable sites, water efficiency, energy and atmosphere, materials and resources, indoor environmental quality, and innovation, assigning different levels based on the comprehensive score to reflect the building's sustainability level.
