DB Schenker Attended Naming Ceremony for CMA CGM’s New Container Vessel
Recently, DB Schenker attended the naming ceremony of the CMA CGM BIG SUR, a magnificent 15,000-TEU containership powered by liquefied natural gas.
Mr. Billy GU, COO of CMA CGM China, introduced Ms. Cindy Cao, CEO of DB Schenker Greater China as the Godmother of the CMA CGM BIG SUR. Around 100 distinguished guests from DB Schenker, CMA CGM, CMA Ships, esteemed partners, and key managers from Jiangnan Shipyard attended the ceremony, jointly witnessing this memorable moment.
Ms. Cindy Cao, CEO of DB Schenker Greater China, said, “It is a great honor to accept the invitation from CMA CGM Group to be the Godmother of the CMA CGM BIG SUR, the 15,000-TEU LNG powered vessel. This is an exciting opportunity to congratulate our business partner, CMA CGM, on adding a new member to their ocean freight! Our collaboration has yielded remarkable results over the years. We're committed to providing our customers with a range of solutions to further reduce carbon emissions and ensure a better tomorrow for our planet and new generations.”
As trusted partners, DB Schenker and CMA CGM are united in the mission to advance sustainable practices within the logistics industry. For years, DB Schenker and CMA CGM have been steadfast in the implementation of eco-friendly initiatives across ocean freight and beyond, dedication to cutting absolute carbon emissions throughout the transport industry.
Ms. Cindy Cao's role as the Godmother of the CMA CGM BIG SUR is not just a benediction for its voyages, but also an expectation for the greener future of shipping. The CMA CGM BIG SUR uses the world's new generation of dual-fuel main engines equipped with Intelligent Control through Exhaust Recycling system, which can automatically track and dynamically adjust the ratio of air and gas through a specific algorithm. Compared with previous models, methane escape in gas mode can be reduced by 50%, which can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by more than 28%.
In 2022, DB Schenker signed a purchase contract for over 2,500 tons of biofuel with CMA CGM, to switch its entire LCL volumes with CMA CGM to regular carbon-free production, minimizing the environmental footprint of its ocean freight to enhance the industry’s overall sustainability.
DB Schenker will collaborate with more international partners to execute emission reduction efforts in the logistics industry in the future, leveraging its expertise and innovative edge to forge a sustainable, green logistics supply chain.
