DB Schenker’s Green Logistics Solution Awarded "Resilient Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure Pioneer"
DB Schenker was honored with the "Resilient Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure Pioneer" award for its outstanding achievements in sustainable business, showcasing its proactive role in promoting green industry development!
On September 4th, the annual Sustainable Business Awards ceremony organized by the European Union Chamber of Commerce in China (EUCCC) was successfully held in Shanghai.
As one of the world's leading logistics providers, DB Schenker emphasizes that in the face of multiple unexpected factors such as climate events and the reorganization of the global supply chain, it is imperative to prioritize sustainability initiatives to make operations future-proof and ensure long-term success. DB Schenker adheres to the scientific goal of limiting global warming to within 1.5°C and is gradually phasing out diesel, kerosene, and marine fossil fuels. It strives to reduce absolute CO2 emissions by 25% by 2030, implement renewable electricity and the ambitious target of carbon neutrality by 2040.
Scientific Governance: Fostering Sustainable Development
DB Schenker believes that a scientific organizational structure and decision-making process are crucial drivers for enterprises to pursue sustainable development, foster innovative industries, and advance infrastructure construction.
To put these beliefs into practice, DB Schenker has established a dedicated sustainability team to ensure the green initiatives align with corporate sustainability goals. Cross-functional collaborations are also formed, enabling diverse teams to work together on innovation projects. In the decision-making processes, DB Schenker employs a combination of top-down and bottom-up approaches, with strategic directions set by senior management while grassroots innovation is encouraged at all levels.
DB Schenker has been upholding the brand spirit of empowering people by creating a fair, comfortable, and attractive work environment for its employees. Additionally, DB Schenker invests in training programs to equip employees with the latest knowledge and skills in sustainability and innovation.
Innovation: Seizing Opportunities in Resilient Industry Construction
In the ever-changing environment, it is essential to seize the initiative to build a resilient industry through innovative cost-reduction and efficiency-boosting strategies.
DB Schenker actively invests in the development of cutting-edge technologies such as the Internet of Things (IoT), Artificial Intelligence (AI), and Big Data analytics to optimize logistics processes, enhance operational efficiency, and reduce energy consumption and emissions, to better predict and respond to challenges in the supply chain. For example, DB Schenker’s new ultra-thin tracking label for global tracking of freight shipments not only provides customers with optimal visibility and condition monitoring of consignments but also is equipped with a lithium-free battery that emits less CO2 during production and transportation.
Green Partners: Building a Green Logistics Network
As one of the industry’s low-carbon pioneers, DB Schenker firmly holds the view that building a sustainable logistics network is a continuous and integrated process, that can contribute to the industry’s resilient growth and enhance its adaptability and flexibility.
Based on the needs of the industry and customers, DB Schenker has developed a green infrastructure layout, which includes a series of initiatives such as the use of renewable energy, energy-saving technologies, and environmentally friendly materials in logistics centers and transportation networks. DB Schenker Greater China initiated a green logistics solution in early 2022 and utilized 49 new energy vehicles for urban distribution to build a green logistics network. Given the infrastructure constraints, DB Schenker innovatively launched the “Green Partners” project through strong collaboration with its supplier network to strengthen the foundation for net-zero carbon emission operations. As of 2023, DB Schenker has recruited 8 green partners who collectively contributed an additional 40 NEVs for inner and near-city distribution, minimizing the carbon footprint of the transportation process.
This collaborative model not only creates business opportunities for partners under the current “dual carbon” policy but also showcases DB Schenker’s commitment to driving sustainable change and achieving the short to mid-term target of 75% inner-city distribution by NEVs by 2026.
For its exemplary green logistics practices, combined with stellar achievements in scientific governance and innovation, DB Schenker has been recognized as the "Resilient Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure Pioneer".
Ms. Cindy Cao, CEO of DB Schenker Greater China, said, “DB Schenker is honored to be presented with the ‘Resilient Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure Pioneer’ award by the EUCCC at the 2024 Sustainable Business Awards ceremony. This accolade will inspire DB Schenker to persist in its sustainable layout of green logistics, advance sustainable development in the industry through technological innovation, and collaborate with more partners to jointly create a better future.”
