The new IMO 2020 regulations

connect 4 land: DB Schenker starts rollout of new digital booking platform

Customers in Germany can now access DB Schenker's logistics services for land transport online through a new digital booking platform called connect 4 land. The platform has already been successfully tested in Spain and is now available there as well. It will be rolled out in further European countries by the end of the year. By 2019, customers throughout Europe will be able to use the new digital customer interface for system freight services. DB Schenker's other freight business units will soon be launching their own online booking systems, connect 4 ocean and connect 4 air.

"By launching connect 4 land, we are taking another important step towards a digital future and are equipping our company for long-term success," says Jochen Thewes, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of DB Schenker. "Direct and personal communication with our customers will of course remain an important aspect of our core business. However, the new digital booking interface will make it easy for small and medium-sized customers in particular to use DB Schenker's professional services."

"In the future, our customers will have quick online access to the largest land transport network in Europe," says Ewald Kaiser, Chief Operating Officer (COO) of DB Schenker. "With just a few clicks, they will be able to have goods delivered conveniently and easily door to door all over Europe, from Madrid to Moscow. Our core business is becoming even more digital as a result. It won't be long before our entire business process, from offer to invoice, will be digitalized," says Kaiser.

"Online shopping has become standard in the B2C sector. Now the logistics business can benefit from online shopping as well. Thanks to connect 4 land, business customers have now access to convenient and direct online booking –  including by smartphone – immediate and transparent information about prices and transport time, and easy tracking," says Markus Sontheimer, who as Chief Information and Digital Officer (CIO/CDO) of DB Schenker is responsible for digitization and digitalization.
