    Celebrating Vietnamese Women in Logistics

In Vietnam, Women's Day, also known as Ngày Phụ Nữ in Vietnamese, is celebrated annually on October 20th.

On this day, we shine a spotlight on the accomplishments and contributions of our female colleagues in various logistics roles.

For this article, we had the privilege of speaking with four experienced female managers at DB SCHENKER in Vietnam, to hear about their special experiences in the logistics industry. Each of them represents one of our main Vietnam Business Units: Air Freight, Ocean Freight, Land Transport and Contract Logistics. We also asked them which of DB SCHENKER's corporate values appeals to them the most and why.

Kelly Bui - Cluster Revenue & Pricing Management - Air Freight Mekong Cluster

Kelly strongly identifies with the corporate value "PUSH LIMITS." As she shares, her team faced a challenging year marked by slow economic growth, geopolitical tensions, high inflation, and more. However, by changing their mindset, adopting new problem-solving approaches, encouraging diverse thinking, and generating useful ideas, she successfully led her team to find ways to adapt with the situation and bring out best solutions to retain and position themselves to excel in such a competitive market.

What appeals most to Kelly about pursuing a career in logistics is that it offers real responsibility. Ensuring products reach the right place at the right time relies on the expertise of logistics professionals. It's about diligence and dedication, making it possible for everyone else to fulfill their roles.

Kelly believes it's important to celebrate Vietnamese Women’s Day, not just at DB SCHENKER but in all industries. This is a time recognize and appreciate Vietnamese women's unique roles and for playing a big part in making companies successful.

Beyond her work, Kelly's interests include traveling, fitness, music, and K-drama. She also loves hosting TGIF (Thank God It's Friday) parties with her friends to celebrate life.

Melinda Bui - Manager, Customer Management Ocean Freight, Vietnam

For Melinda, "TAKE CUSTOMERS FURTHER" is not just a corporate value, but a philosophy she lives by. In her role managing Ocean Customer Management and the APAC Control Tower for one of our multinational FMCG customers. For her, meeting customer needs is the most important thing. She knows that going beyond what's expected, offering extra help, and tackling problems in advance helps customers reach their goals more quickly.

Melinda believes that Vietnamese women who juggle careers and household duties deserve special attention. She feels that celebrating Vietnamese Women's Day on October 20th is a way to show love, respect, admiration, and gratitude to women. It makes her feel reenergized and more motivated to do better in all her roles.

Outside of her busy logistics job, Melinda enjoys doing yoga and reading books for peace and relaxation. Spending time with her family, cooking, and going shopping on weekends also keeps her energized.

Jennifer Pham – Manager, Carrier & Quality Management – Mekong Cluster

Jennifer strongly believes in "PLAY FAIR BE HONEST". She knows that respecting rules and guidelines and promoting thoughtful behavior will lead to sustainable growth. Jennifer thinks that when a team puts this value into daily practice, it can attain more opportunities and gain more business from customers.

Logistics, particularly land services with a focus on Customs & Transportation, appeals to Jennifer the most due to the strong focus on teamwork. Through teamwork, she and her team, can come up with creative solutions to help customers progress.

In her view of women in the logistics industry, Jennifer states, 'We are equally as strong as men.' Regardless of the career choice, when women pursue a career in logistics, they can push the limits of their abilities, tap into their potential talents, and achieve their objectives.

While International Women's Day celebrates women worldwide, Jennifer appreciates the importance of having a special day to celebrate Vietnamese Women specifically – the silent heroes who support and care for their families in our everyday lives.

Outside the hustle and bustle of work life, Jennifer finds balance by playing the piano and singing.

Emily Nguyen – National Solution Design Manager, Contract Logistics Vietnam

Emily finds the corporate value that means the most to her while working in Contract Logistics is "BE ONE TEAM WITH ONE GOAL”. Her top goal is always to make customers happy. She believes that achieving this goal isn’t a one-person job; it takes a united team working together to provide efficient and high-quality solutions.

In Emily’s view, one of the best things about the logistics industry is how dynamic and ever-changing it is. She enjoys the fact that there are new challenges every day, and this constant change keeps her interested and never bored. Working in logistics also means she has to work closely with colleagues and customers to come up with effective solutions.

When asked about the importance of celebrating Vietnam's Women's Day, Emily has a unique perpective. She wonders why we need a specific day to celebrate it. To her, it’s important to recognize and appreciate the value of women every day to foster happiness.

Outside of her demanding career, Emily enjoys reading books and travelling. These two hobbies help her understand different viewpoints and broaden her horizon, giving her a deeper insight into the world.

As we celebrate Vietnamese Women's Day, DB SCHENKER takes pride in having many women working in key logistics roles who drive the industry forward. Women play a vital role in Vietnam’s logistics industry, and our four role models have chosen logistics as their career path.
