DB Schenker have had the great honour of transporting some of Vicki Corser’ s beautiful art pieces to the Australian High Commission in Singapore which is the official representative of Australian Government in Singapore.
Vicki Corser is one of Australia’s best known contemporary impressionists artist. In Brisbane you can find her gallery called Fifty One (https://www.galleryfiftyone.com.au/ ).
One of the biggest challenges was packaging the over dimensional paintings which were painted specifically for the Australian High Commission in Singapore. This packaging was thought out specifically so that it arrives safely & without damage in Singapore. It was decided to use a piece of drainage pipe so the canvas could be rolled in the pipe and then packed inside a protective bag. This ensures that the canvas are well protected.

Once again, DB Schenker has been appointed official logistics provider for the PACIFIC 2017 International Maritime Exposition. DB Schenker Australia has been the exclusive on-site handling agent for the biennial event since its inception in 2000.
The Sydney-based event, held 3 – 5 October, re-wrote the record books in terms of industry participation, visiting delegations, conferences and total visitations. This year the number of participating exhibitor companies was 546 and total attendances of 16,765 over the 3 days of the event! DB Schenker Fairs & Exhibition team has been working hard on this Project since June 2017. Our Melbourne and Sydney teams on the ground managed approximately 18 Trucks of freight from our warehouse to the ICC in Sydney. Schenker handled 1,350 cbm of empty storage and coordinated goods for more than 50 international and 90 domestic exhibitors. Having only one day after the exhibition to move out all the freight, Schenker Fairs & Exhibition team mastered the challenge and was available around the clock at the exhibition site & trade fair stand for all our exhibitors and agents. DB Schenker is one of the largest Fair & Exhibition logistics provider worldwide with more than 1,000 employees in 49 Countries and more than 1 Million shipments per year. Schenker Australia reaps the benefits of vast roof spaces to achieve green

Since 2014 Schenker Australia has engaged with the commercial solar industry to complete a number of commercial- scale installations: a 51.75 kW project at a warehouse facility in Eagle Farm near Brisbane Airport (2014), other three 100 kW projects at Australian Head Office in Alexandria (2015), Eastern Creek (2016) in Sydney and High Wycombe Perth (2016). Currently, around 15% of all energy consumed by DB Schenker’s stations and warehouses worldwide is harnessed from renewable energy. In Australia (whole country not DB Schenker) only 8-10% of all energy consumed is classified as renewable which indicated Schenker is performing extremely well. Schenker plans to increase this figure to 18% by 2020, in order to attain the emissions reduction target. Other emission reduction strategies include using fuel-efficient vehicles, employing smarter route planning and increasing the utilisation of rail in full container load freight. This is because rail transport can be up to 70% more efficient than a semitrailer for long distance trips. Electricity generation from solar power is also part of the emissions target reduction game plan.
“Solar energy is an extremely viable way to achieve lower consumption because of the vast and unobstructed roof spaces available to warehousing facilities. The business case is simple as there are very few variables involved. For us it means an investment with almost zero risk and very few internal resources required to set it up.” - Mr Koehler, CEO of Schenker Australia and New Zealand
Solar Photovoltaic (PV) system can provide 12% to 20% of total energy supply in warehouses, depending on the facility location and whether it is cooled or contains testing labs for electronics vertical market. Schenker Australia are currently exploring new systems at Hoxton Park and Redbank sites as these two massive sites with a combined area of 85,000m2 are energy guzzlers. Schenker will look at first reducing the consumption through LED lighting and using solar to offset.
DB Schenker’s Batonbearers prepare to share the dream of the Gold Coast2018

DB Schenker is proud to announce that 6 of our employees were chosen to participate in the Queen’s Baton Relay (QBR) for the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games!
The Queen’s Baton Relay continues to connect DB Schenker with the Gold Coast and the entire Commonwealth! The Baton engages with all Commonwealth nations and territories of Africa, the Caribbean, the Americas, Europe, Asia and Oceania for 288 days before it arrives in Australia for a further 100 days. The Baton arrives into Brisbane on Christmas Eve and approximately 3,800 batonbearers will carry it through every state and territory in Australia. For one month during the school summer holidays, the Queen’s Baton will visit major events, iconic landmarks and children’s hospitals across the country. The traditional relay will resume in Canberra on 25 January 2018 and will be carried by great Australians through QBR celebration communities around the country. Congratulations! You have successfully made it through the selection process and are now a Batonbearer for the Gold Coast 2018 Queen's Baton Relay! The Relay started on Commonwealth Day, Monday 13 March 2017, at Buckingham Palace when Her Majesty placed her message inside of the Baton.
Premier of Queensland Annastacia Palaszczuk, announced the GC2018 Batonbearers and said that the list of names, selected through a community nomination program, is a great reflection of Australia. “The lists of names have been compiled by judging panels in each state and territory, allowing local knowledge to play the greatest possible role in the selection process,” the Premier said.
“The batonbearers recognise the achievements and aspirations of Australians from all walks of life, from ambitious 10-year-olds to humble volunteers and well-known Australians from a variety of fields”. The Premier also revealed the uniform that batonbearers will get to wear with pride as they carry the Baton. “It will be a treasured keep-sake of their special role in GC2018,” she said.
It will be 60 years since a Baton first carried Her Majesty’s message to athletes of the Commonwealth at the Cardiff 1958 British Empire and Commonwealth Games in Wales. In October 2017 DB Schenker Australia was invited to attend the last Chef de Mission seminar prior the Gold Coast Commonwealth Games 2018. Within 4 days DB Schenker Sports & Events Team together with Transport Team of GOLDOC, responded to questions on importing freight, arrival and departures of Sport teams, hand carry items’ import and transport around the event, to ensure the Commonwealth Games Teams will have a great experience arriving and departing the country.

With less than 190 days until Gold Cost Commonwealth Games, DB Schenker team is working 24/7 to get everything ready!
In June 2017, Schenker Australia was appointed by The Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games Corporation (GOLDOC) as the Official Logistics Provider for the Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games (GC2018).
Schenker Australia is proud to join the GC2018 family and provide a range of capabilities to assist with the delivery of a successful Commonwealth games, including:
Access to a comprehensive global freight forwarding network;
An integrated warehouse and distribution service for receiving assets from suppliers and delivery to venues;
A distribution solution for transfer of athlete baggage on arrival and departure;
A distribution solution for transfer of athlete equipment to venues;Supply of a warehouse management system for control of assets moving through the warehouse; and
A warehouse to consolidate and manage the disposal of assets post games.
It will be the fifth time Australia has staged the Commonwealth Games following Sydney (1938), Perth (1962), Brisbane (1982) and Melbourne (2006) – making Australia the nation that has hosted the most number of Games. With the games 187 days away, upgrade works have begun to the DB Schenker games central logistics warehouse in QLD.
The project is on track for the go live date in November when the 18,000 sqm warehouse will receive its first shipment for storage and redistribution of vital equipment for the games.
At peak Schenker will be running a team of approx. 130 staff and moving 15,000 pallets through the warehouse and distributed via 1,500 vehicles to over 20 venues.
The logistics centre will be supported by a freight forwarding team before, after and for the duration of the games. The hub will be established to include services such as:

Meanwhile, DB Schenker team has been very busy in August & September and the clean-up of the warehouse is now complete. At the end of August, we received the first load for the Commonwealth Games! There was a test event for weightlifting and wrestling, which saw the Schenker Team move 54 pallet spaces to Carrara Stadium for the set up.
A special event for our suppliers
On Tuesday 19th of September, DB Schenker hosted the first brief to various supplies on the Commonwealth Games event. It was a great opportunity to share important information on the scope and high level requirements for the games. This will enable suppliers to start to plan resources and trainings required to make this event a success. The session was attended by various transport and labour providers. Above all else safety is our main priority and compliance of our suppliers is paramount. It was a great event and we look forward to hosting another session in the near future!

Being a part of GC2018 Family, DB Schenker had a chance to attend a Sponsor Family Workshop at Gold Cost last month. The purpose of the day was to get to know a number of updates from key Functional Areas and listen the speakers who shared information on GOLDOC’s plans in relation to Marketing and Communications, Transport, Security, Queen’s Baton Relay, Ceremonies and Festival 2018 as well as a number of other key deliverables for the GC2018 Sponsor Family such as venue tours, accreditation and sponsor showcasing. The Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games (GC2018) will be the largest sporting event Australia will see this decade and the biggest sporting spectacular the Gold Coast has ever seen. As the first regional Australian city to ever host a Commonwealth Games, the Gold Coast will celebrate a great Games in a great city leaving great memories and great benefits for all. On 4 April 2018, over 6,600 athletes and team officials from 70 nations and territories will converge on the Gold Coast for an 11 day sporting and cultural event.
The event is unprecedented in Gold Coast city’s history, and is destined to define the future of the city. With the proud support of close to 15,000 passionate and friendly volunteers, a spectacle of 18 sports and 7 para-sports will be contested and broadcast to a cumulative global audience of 1.5 billion.
The Commonwealth Games have been conducted by the Commonwealth Games Federation (CGF) every four years (except for 1942 and 1946 due to World War II) since the first British Empire Games were held in Hamilton, Canada in 1930.
Since then, the Games have grown from an event featuring 11 countries and 400 athletes to a modern sporting spectacular that includes 70 nations and territories and over 6,600 athletes and team officials.

DB Schenker Brisbane Projects team successfully delivered the first two Gold Coast Light Rail Vehicles (LRV) this week. There is still another two trams on the water and due in the next two weeks...
Schenker Projects have handled these units from EXW Vienna to Delivered on the tracks at the Queens Street station in the Gold Coast. The LRV are transported as a single unit and are over 45m in length. This is the first time a train of this length has been moved as a single piece on a RORO vessel. By shipping on a RORO vessel instead of a Lift On / Lift Off Break Bulk vessel, DB Schenker has reduced the of lifting the LRV?s and additional risk of damage.
DB Schenker Brisbane Projects team have been working hard over the last 6 months to make this project a success. Having only four hour window between 12am and 4am to discharge to LRV's to the tracks without disrupting the operating hours of the LRV?s is something only DB Schenker can deliver!
The LRV's are stage 2 of the Gold Coast Light Rail. These will assist with the additional volumes of the Commonwealth Games and the new track extension to Helensvale train station.
