On the 7th of February, under sunny skies in Launceston, Tasmania, DB Schenker Sarah Schmitz had the honour to be one of the Queen’s baton bearers. “I have been chosen to be one of the Baton bearer as part of the GC2018 event. I am truly honoured for this opportunity and know that this will be one of the best days my life, a dream I never thought would come true!” commented Sarah Schmitz, DB Schenker Operations Supervisor.

    A bit of Personal touch
Sarah, originally from a small town in Germany called Prüm, moved to Perth, Western Australia 6 years ago. Sarah is not new to sports event, the biggest highlight of her career has definitely been working in Beijing at the Olympic Games in 2008, where she learnt the ropes of the DB Schenker Event Team world. Sarah’s career at DB Schenker started nearly 17 years ago. “DB Schenker has offered me many opportunities to personally develop and grow within the company and I have been given opportunities to travel and live around the world. Working in many countries in my role in Sports events has given me the opportunity to meet incredible, likeminded people from around the world all with common goals and ideas!”

“What an experience it was to be able to carry the Baton, it felt very surreal and there was so much going on that it just went all so quick. The other Baton people were all from Renmark and each had done some very special achievements in their community, I felt very privilege to be able to share the experience with them. Definitely an experience I will not forget and feel very privilege that I was able to experience.” commented Kelly McKellar, DB Schenker Ocean Freight Manager QLD.

    Kelly’s story
Kelly is a mom of two boys. In 2016 she started training to do a Marathon in July 2017, Kelly has never been an exercise enthusiast and the required training was extremely hard. She persevered and trained hard together with a good friend they run for a great cause of Brain Cancer. “The atmosphere and the people on the day, sure did make it somewhat easier, but to run across that finish line was a very proud moment for myself.”
Kelly has been with DB Schenker for 10 years, started as Transport Operator and reporting warehouse manager. “I have a great team that have gone through many of changes in the business over the last 5 years in Schenker, I do enjoy the challenge each day Freight Forwarding business brings and look forward to growing and seeing many more changes in the business in the years to come”.
Once again, well done to Sarah, Daniel and Kelly for taking part in this very special event!
