Job Overview

The Accounts Payable Supervisor will lead, develop, and engage a team responsible for daily payables operations in Schenker’s transportation business. This leader will communicate effectively to drive efficiency and control for continuous improvement, collaborating with Product management teams to include reporting, month-end close support, and maintaining vendor relationships. 

What will you enjoy doing (duties/tasks)

  • Ensure that the company’s payables and related expenses are always complete, valid, and accounted for in the proper period. 
  • Coach and develop the payables team, enabling the company to understand and control costs better while providing outstanding service to vendors and internal business partners. 
  • Manage team workload (1-4 employees), establish priorities, and ensure adherence to company policies. 
  • Ensure the team is properly trained on multiple systems (CASS, ProCars, Tango, PayCargo) 
  • Manage the team’s time reporting, vacation scheduling, and overtime requests according to company policies. 
  • Ensure continuous performance feedback is provided to your team members and conduct performance evaluations in accordance with company policies. 
  • Manage relationships with the company’s offshore Global Business Services (GBS) team, ensuring service level commitments are met and collaborating effectively to improve processes. 
  • Act as an effective escalation point in solving issues related to payables and proactively heading off negative service trends with internal and external business partners. 
  • Support the AP Senior Manager in ensuring that team members are cross-trained to support all traffic payables product lines (Air, Ocean, Land). 
  • Support the AP Senior Manager in special projects designing policies, procedures, process, and technology improvements for payables that improve quality and reduce cost. 
  • Ensure key accounts and vendor statements are reconciled and reviewed timely, effectively 
  • Understand and utilize resources provided by internal systems, departments, policies, and procedures * Execute internal financial controls * Participate in the month-end close process, as needed, ensuring that all payables accruals are complete, accurate, and meet closing cutoffs for the accounting period

 

What you need to succeed (Qualifications, experience, skills, attributes) 

  • Strong Customer focus, both internal and external 
  • Ability to learn quickly and adapt in dynamic, fast-paced situations 
  • Outstanding interpersonal skills - including written and oral communication skills 
  • A work ethic based on a strong desire to develop others and exceed expectations 
  • Experience supervising small teams (1-3 people) in accounts payable or accounting processes 
  • Intermediate-level Excel skills (complex lookups, pivot tables, charting) 
  • HS diploma or equivalent 
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or related business field is a plus 
  • Minimum 3 years of post-qualification experience with accounts payable or shared services 
  • Experience with ERP financial management systems 
  • SAP FI/CO.
