eTrucks for cleaner logistics: DB SCHENKER deploys first Volta Zero truck to Benelux operation
Kick-off for European roll-out of 1,500 Volta Zero Trucks • Next step for electromobility in the land transport sector • DB SCHENKER starts driving one of the first Volta Zero vehicles in the Netherlands
Tilburg, September 5, 2023 – DB SCHENKER, on of the world's leading logistics service provider and the leader in European land transport, marks an important step towards cleaner logistic. In August, DB SCHENKER started driving the electrically powered and highly innovative Volta Zero trucks in the urban areas of Tilburg and Ede.
"We consider it important to offer our services carbon-neutral as soon as possible and are therefore testing various new, innovative solutions to continuously reduce the emissions of our transports," says Pierre van Diesen, Head of Land Transport at DB SCHENKER in the Benelux. "The introduction of the Volta Zero is a natural step in our sustainability policy. The smart design of the truck also creates a comfortable and safe workplace for our employees. From the low cab, there is a good overview of traffic, and you can easily use both the left and right doors. We aim to retain drivers with a new, more attractive working environment, as the shortage remains a major concern within the industry."
As of this summer, DB SCHENKER has integrated the initial Volta Zero full-electric trucks European land transport network. In 2021, DB Schenker and Volta Trucks announced a partnership. The subsequent pre-order of nearly 1,500 full-electric Volta Zero vehicles represented the largest purchase of medium-duty electric trucks placed in Europe to date. DB SCHENKER plans to employ the full- electric, 16-ton Volta Zero in its European terminals to deliver goods from distribution hubs to urban areas and city centres.
DB SCHENKER strives to be the world's leading provider of sustainable logistics solutions. In their ongoing effort to decarbonise transportation, the company has introduced a number of sweeping changes. This record-breaking order of Volta Zero trucks is only one of many initiatives the logistics service provider is involved in as part of its transition to zero-emission freight. DB SCHENKER will be one of the first companies in the world to put these trucks to the test in a real-world setting.
