DB Schenker opens fully solar-powered logistics center in Dubai

DB Schenker opened its first fully solar- powered logistics center in Dubai with an area of 33,000 m2. The regional distribution center, DLC II, is located in the logistics area of Dubai South, in the immediate vicinity of Al Maktoum International Airport.
Global logistics service provider DB Schenker has introduced autonomous robots from the manufacturer Gideon Brothers at its location in Leipzig. DB Schenker is thus relying on the flexible solution for automating logistics processes in existing warehouses. The robots, which are equipped with cutting-edge technology, allow productivity gains without the need to modify facilities.

October 9, 2019 – DB Schenker, a global transportation and logistics company recently held a series of Facebook Live events in New Orleans with a focus on the Port of New Orleans, World Trade Center of New Orleans and New Orleans & Company. In three separate Q&A’s hosted by DB Schenker, Brandy D. Christian, CEO of Port NOLA, J. Edwin Webb, CEO, World Trade Center of New Orleans, and Kim Priez, Vice President, Tourism, New Orleans & Company, tell viewers about the renaissance of New Orleans following devastating weather-related events, the resiliency of its people and working together to rebuild their brands, the city of New Orleans and overall trade for Louisiana.
“Today the port of New Orleans is thriving,” according to Brandy D. Christian, CEO, Port of New Orleans (NOLA). “This success is due to the collaboration and partnerships we’ve put together but there is still much that needs to be done,” she added. In 2019, Port NOLA moved 619,000 twenty-foot equivalent units (TEUs) up 12% year-over-year and more than at any other time in its history. This growth has been driven by poultry exports and the petrochemical boom in Louisiana. Watch the full video here.
According to J. Edwin Webb, CEO, World Trade Center of New Orleans, WTCNO was the first of what are now more than 300 World Trade Center organizations in nearly 100 countries. Founded in 1944, the organization is currently comprised of more than 1,000 member representatives. ‘Our goal is to help businesses of all shapes and sizes, but particularly mid-sized businesses understand what international trade means from the export and import side,” Webb said. “We want to help them understand how to expand their businesses and marketplace to grow their revenue, innovation and maintain jobs,” he added. New Orleans & Company is a nationally accredited, 1,100-member destination marketing organization (DMO), and the largest and most successful private economic development corporation in Louisiana. According to Kim Priez, “tourism is the lifeblood of New Orleans and our job is to influence visitors to choose New Orleans over other destinations.” In 2018, New Orleans hosted a record 18.5 million tourists, but it wasn’t always easy to get them to come.
