DB Schenker Awarded Prestigious Department of Defense Pro Patria Award; Named Finalist for Freedom Award
DB Schenker U.S. Land Transport recognized by Arkansas Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR)
Recipient of 2023 Pro Patria award, highest-level award given by an ESGR State Committee
DB Schenker has been awarded the 2023 Pro Patria Award from the Arkansas Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve (ESGR). The DB Schenker U.S. Land Transport division has now earned back-to-back Pro Patria awards (2022) and has four total Pro Patria honors (2015, 2016, 2022, 2023).
Pro Patria, meaning "For the Country," recognizes outstanding support and dedication to the men and women of the Guard and Reserve. The ESGR’s Pro Patria Award is presented annually by each ESGR State Committee to one small, one large, and one public sector employer in their state or territory. It is the highest-level award given by an ESGR State Committee. Recipients of the award have demonstrated the greatest support to Guard and Reserve employees through their leadership and practices, including adopting personnel policies that make it easier for employees to participate in the National Guard and Reserves.
The ESGR also announced that DB Schenker was one of 30 finalists for the 2023 Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award. The finalists include small and large private and public sector employers nominated by a National Guard or Reserve Component employee employed in their organization. ESGR received 1,863 nominations for this prestigious award for employers throughout the 50 states, Guam-CNMI, Puerto Rico, U.S. Virgin Islands and District of Columbia.
The Employer Support Freedom Award, which began in 1996 and only 325 honorees to date, is the highest recognition given by the Department of Defense to employers for their exceptional support of National Guard and Reserve members. The Department of Defense will announce the 15 employers selected to receive the 2023 Secretary of Defense Employer Support Freedom Award in the summer of 2023. The recipients will be honored in local ceremonies or the greater Washington D.C. area if conditions permit.
“We are truly humbled and honored to be recognized with the prestigious Pro Patria Award and also to be named a finalist for the Employer Support Freedom Award by ESGR,” DB Schenker U.S. Land Transport COO George Henry said. “We recognize and value that veterans and reservists bring tremendous skills and capabilities to our team. Approximately 20% of our employees are veterans, so this is a cause near and dear to us. We look forward to continuing to grow our programs that support those individuals who have selflessly sacrificed so much.”

About ESGR
ESGR, a Department of Defense office, was established in 1972 to promote cooperation and understanding between Reserve Component Service members and their civilian employers and to assist in the resolution of conflicts arising from an employee's military commitment.
ESGR develops and promotes supportive work environments for Service members in the Reserve Components through outreach, recognition, and educational opportunities that increase awareness of applicable laws. It also aids in resolving conflicts between Service members and their employers.
Recognizing supportive employers is vital to ESGR’s mission. ESGR’s 54 State Committees actively promote awards as a key element in furthering employer support while strengthening relationships between Service members and employers. These Department of Defense awards honor the sacrifices made by so many employers year after year.
