Stop hunger now – DB Schenker Durban - 14 October 2016

In October 2016 DB Schenker Durban chose to participate in an event with “Stop Hunger Now”. With this initiative, we took the opportunity to provide 5 meals a week for 19 underprivileged children for a year which was equivalent to 5000 packed meals.

By organising a Team Building event in the Durban branch, every department was able to participate by volunteering a few minutes of their busy days to pack these meals at the office.  A production line was set up and each person packed in one element of the dry food pack, up to and including sealing and packaging. It was tremendously motivating and we were proud of beating the two-hour deadline for packing, sealing and boxing the 5000 meals.

Around 60 volunteers supported for a period of 2 and a half hours which entailed offloading the dry food ingredients, production line set up, packaging and sealing. Afterwards the meals were distributed to the local Liv Village Clinic where the development of the child in a household is closely monitored and to support two crèches from the surrounding rural towns.

The colleagues had a great time during this initiative, and the motivation is very high to keep up this great spirit.
