Potential Canadian Rail Service Disruptions
We want to keep you informed about the ongoing negotiations between Canada Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) and Canadian National (CN) railways with the Teamsters Canada Rail Conference (TCRC). These negotiations can potentially result in a strike or lockout, significantly impacting rail services.
As part of our commitment to proactive communication, we are reaching out to ensure you are prepared for potential disruptions. The earliest mentioned date for a strike is May 22, 2024. A 72-hour notice must be given prior to any work stoppage action.
To assist you during this time, we can provide services such as port drayage, de-stuffing, and transloading into 53’ trailers, divert or reroute containers, truck options transport services. Please get in touch with your Schenker account manager/sales rep to discuss potential solutions and pricing to plan for expected Canadian supply chain disruptions.
Please note that capacity in CFS locations is expected to fill up quickly, and trucking rates from YVR inland or Montreal inland may increase due to heightened demand.
In the event of a work stoppage, all rail lines across Canada will cease operations, halting all shipments via railways. We recommend taking proactive measures to minimize potential delays and ensure the continuity of your supply chain.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation during this time. If you have any questions or require further assistance, please don’t hesitate to contact us.
