Job Overview

This position is responsible for supervision of a specific department or function within the station. May also be responsible for daily supervision of a shift. 

What will you enjoy doing (duties/tasks)

  • Supervise department or shift activities to ensure effective customer service 
  • Oversee daily activities of cartage drivers and ground handlers 
  • Research and resolve customer problems and complaints on domestic and cartage issues 
  • Assist in identifying and improving service and operations related issues in a station 
  • Assist in auditing and researching service performance issues and develop recommendations for improvements 
  • May perform accounting tasks such as trade payables and petty cash 
  • Maintain the security of freight in accordance with policy and procedure 
  • Ensure a safe working environment through consistent practice of safety programs and procedures 
  • Select and place staff, ensure staff receives training for job activities, and define specific job assignments. Manage performance to ensure required levels of productivity and achievement of organizational objectives 
  • Working Environment: Assignment Complexity - Work on problems of diverse scope where analysis of situation or data requires evaluation of identifiable factors. Exercise judgment within generally defined practices and policies in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. Act as advisor to subordinate(s) to meet schedules and/or resolve technical problems. Develop and administer budgets, schedules, and performance requirements. 
  • Accountability - Manage through subordinate supervisors or professionals the coordination of the activities for functional area with responsibility for results in terms of costs, methods, and employees. 
  • Impact of Decisions - Erroneous decisions or failure to achieve goals results in additional costs and personnel, and serious delays in overall schedules. 
  • Working Relationships - Frequently interact with subordinates, customers, and/or functional peer managers. May interact with senior management. Interactions normally involve matters between functional areas, other company divisions or units, or customers. 
  • Scope - Receive assignments in the form of objectives and establishes goals to meet objectives. Provide guidance to subordinates to achieve goals in accordance with established policies. Work is reviewed and measured based on meeting objectives and schedules. Establishes and recommends changes to policies which effect subordinate organization(s).

What you need to succeed (Qualifications, experience, skills, attributes) 

  • This is a lead position. 
  • Generally, prefer 6+ years of experience. 
  • Good interpersonal skills required. 
  • Knowledge of Word and Excel. 
  • Knowledge of general freight forwarding terms and standards. 
  • Knowledge of U.S. Customs Regulations and Harmonized Tariff Schedule. 
  • Basic knowledge of accounting functions and relative information retrieval.
