As you are aware, the maritime industry is currently facing major regulatory changes, the first of which came into force on January 1, 2020 through the new IMO 2020 regulation. These regulations, approved by the International Maritime Organization (IMO), obliges ships to use fuels which sulfur content does not exceed 0,5% compared to the current limits of 3,5%.
Since sulfur oxide contributes greatly to the harmful emissions of ships, this limitation is part of the IMO's global response to the growing concern of companies and institutions for environmental preservation, a commitment that DB Schenker is highly involved in.
The cost of compliance with this new regulation is significant, which undoubtedly affects the cost of transport.
The goods to and from the Spanish Islands, transported by our System product, will have a surcharge for this concept (MFR).
