Montpellier platform make their deliveries to the city center by cargo bikes.
Delivery the city center isn’t easy because of legal traffic, the density of traffic and the inconvenience caused by vehicle pollution. This is why DB Schenker is innovating and works with the company “Triporteurs Montpelliérains” in Montpellier. The bikes used are electric-assisted and extended cycles.
For the moment, Montpellier has two eVélos-cargos which circulate in city center. Every day, one “bike” travels about 25 km and delivers 20 customers. Its load capacity can be up to 450 kg (300 kg on the bike and 180 kg on the trailer).
15 cities are distributed by cargo bikes: La Rochelle, Chartres, Le Touquet, Amiens, Rennes, Angers, Nantes, Strasbourg, Bordeaux, Lorient, Lille, Saint-Malo, Pau, Montpellier and Nice. The deployment will continue in other cities including Paris and Toulouse.
This initiative is part of DB Schenker's objective of reducing its carbon emissions by 30% by 2020 and its CO2 emissions by 50% by 2030.
The group has also developed other actions in favor of the environment with alternative energy vehicles (electric and gas) which deliver cities and towns. Also, animals (sheep and goats) and insects hotels are in the green areas of the platforms to promote biodiversity and logistic platforms are eco-responsible buildings.
