DB Schenker builds new logistics center south of Stockholm

Construction of a 14,400 square meter logistics terminal in Södertälje • Faster delivery and 200 new jobs

DB Schenker, one of the world's leading global logistics providers, is building a new, sustainable logistics terminal in the catchment area of the Swedish capital Stockholm. The center will be located in Almnäs in the municipality of Södertälje, south of Stockholm, and is expected to create around 200 new jobs. “If everything goes according to plan, we should be able to move into the new terminal around year-end 21/22. This means we are able to increase our service to our customers in the fast growing Södertälje area south of Stockholm”, says Mats Grundius, CEO of DB Schenker Cluster Sweden, Denmark, Iceland.

“The new terminal in Södertälje will make it possible to deliver goods earlier and pick up later from our customers south of Stockholm. This will provide a great advantage for both the sender and the recipient of goods. We also gain an increased security of timely deliveries because the goods do not need to pass through Stockholm as has been the case to date. The result is a reduced risk of delays due to traffic jams”, says Magnus Strand, Head of Division Land for DB Schenker Cluster Sweden, Denmark, Iceland.

In June this year, the Södertälje Municipality signed a letter of intent with DB Schenker, that states that the parties agree that DB Schenker will establish the new branch on the site. “Right now, we are working full time to get the detailed plan for the area ready, so that DB Schenker can apply for building permits and start construction before year-end”, says Sune Eriksson, Principal Project Manager for Stockholm South, Södertälje Municipality.

DB Schenker aims to build a 14,400 square meter facility on the site that will accommodate office space and a terminal for both goods and parcel handling. The energy consumption for the property lies at the bottom end of the Swedish authorities building rules. It will be primarily heated by bedrock heat and 170 Kwh of solar cells that will produce electricity for internal use, thus also helping to reduce overall energy consumption.
