DB Schenker has implemented its first autonomous mobile robot (AMR) in the Czech Republic at the site in Pardubice, around 120 kilometers east of Prague. The robot was produced by Danish technology company Mobile Industrial Robots (MiR) and deployed in cooperation with DREAMland, a Czech distributor and integrator of autonomous robots. The model, named MiR Hook 200, will be used to increase efficiency by detecting and transporting trolleys in the warehouse.
Equipped with a 3D camera and laser scanner, the MiR Hook 200 can automatically detect trolleys ready for pick up by scanning the related QR codes in predefined zones, or by triggering the next task via any mobile device. The robot’s double battery provides an operating time of 16 hours, after which the AMR is sent to a charging station and fully recharged within three hours.
When in operation for DB Schenker in Pardubice, the robot automatically picks up trolleys from the storage area loaded with items for shipping and carries them to the packing station. After the task is complete, the AMR transports empties back to the storage area. With a maximum towing payload of up to 500 kilograms, the robot can avoid both moving and stationary obstacles and adjust its route independently.
No major infrastructural changes were needed for the implementation of the MiR Hook 200 in Pardubice, meaning the robot was deployed almost immediately with minimal investment. By using exchangeable add-on modules, the AMR can be easily converted to meet changing requirements. Programming can be done done via an intuitive user interface by DB Schenker staff, eliminating the need for a dedicated technician. Due to the ease of implementation and scalability options, DB Schenker is currently considering further use of the robot at additional logistics locations.
