DB Schenker Building Red Lion

The lion starts to roar: Red Lion is our new regional logistics hub for high speed logistics

Record breaking facts and figures

DB Schenker successfully put our new flagship - and at 101 million euros, the largest investment in Schenker's history - into operation in Singapore this summer. The new 50,000 sqm logistics facility is equipped with the latest automation technology and provides first-class logistics services over five floors.

With an advanced automation system that includes autonomous vehicles and robots that can be seamlessly connected to our on-site air freight operations, Red Lion will serve customers with reduced lead times and highly efficient and agile logistics processes. Our new regional logistics hub in Singapore is strategically located in the free trade zone of the Airport Logistics Park Singapore (ALPS) at Changi Airport.

"Our new warehouse is a record-breaking facility full of technological and digital innovations. It is designed to serve customers with requirements for short lead times and high throughput. Our robotics will revolutionize product labelling. With our automation novelties, we are paving the way on our continuous journey in Contract Logistics toward a fully digital supply chain."

Automation and robotization

Red Lion will use advanced air freight measurement equipment combined with innovative automation technology and a next-generation warehouse management system that will enable productivity increases of up to 100% and a reduction in lead times for air freight imports and exports of approximately 40%. The facility handles inbound freight using pallet lifters with a combination of multi-shuttle and carton live storage systems served by an autonomous logistics robot. These are complemented by goods-to-person and pick-to-light technologies to increase speed and accuracy. Red Lion also houses the first internally developed robotic labelling system that uses 3D-vision technology to apply labels to products of different sizes and configurations.

Sustainability

Green logistics and sustainability are core elements of our daily business at DB Schenker and therefore also played an important role in the construction concept of Red Lion. For example, 1,440 solar panels installed on the roof of the logistics building, along with other sustainability features, enable energy savings of 34%. In addition, the annual CO2 emissions are reduced by 458 tons. Red Lion is certified with the Green Mark Platinum label by the Building and Construction Authority Singapore (BCA) as well as the LEED Gold Standard and thus underlines our commitment to becoming the sustainability champion in our industry.

What does Red Lion actually stand for? Red Lion is the name of our new state-of-the-art logistics facility in Singapore. Red is one of the colors of the Singapore national flag, and the lion represents strength, overcoming adversity and leadership, but also stands for Singapore's national symbol, the Merlion - half mermaid and half lion - and thus helped us to name our new flagship.
