DB Schenker’s Global Sustainability approach

One of the most important topics in today’s business world is sustainability and its overall impact on global carbon footprint as well as company’s business models.

As such, there is a growing awareness in the logistics and transportation industry about the need for achieving the critical balance between global supply chains and ecological as well as economical challenges towards reducing our customer’s overall ecological footprint.

As a leading provider of global logistics and transportation services, sustainability is implemented as a core of our business practices – from Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), to sustainable growth and reducing our carbon footprint as well as developing new products and collaborating with our suppliers and partners. By integrating these principles into every aspect of our business, we are committing ourselves to being a sustainability leader and socially responsible business partner in the global communities we serve.

Vision & Strategic Framework

The DB Schenker sustainability vision and strategic framework help us deliver on our company purpose “advancing businesses and lives by shaping the way our world connects”.

It also incorporates the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDG’s), helping to benchmark our ambitions. Each building block has what we call a “mission-SDG” which is the area where we want to lead our industry, and some “commitment-SDG”, which are areas where we want to do our part in driving progress.

The sustainability Framework consists of the building blocks Clean Logistics, Thriving Communities, and Shared Value - all supported by Global Partnerships

Carbon Zero Target

We committed to the Deutsche Bahn Climate Neutral Target 2040. To reach this ambitious goal, we are continuously investing in innovative transport solutions such as new Renewable Energies, our E-Mobility Fleet and Carbon Neutral Products for our customers. Since over 15 years, we are consulting our global DB Schenker customers in regards to their transport carbon footprint visibility, supply chain optimization and modal shift in order to meet their environmental targets.

We own the largest eCanter fleet in the world

Sustainable mobility is becoming increasingly important in the metropolitan regions. For this reason, DB Schenker is expanding its fleet of electrically powered vehicles. With the partnership for electromobility with FUSO, a Daimler Trucks brand, the logistics provider is setting a strong example. In the coming months, the DB Schenker plans to use 36 new FUSO eCanters in eleven European countries.

Electric VoloDrone conducts first public flight

Together with our partner Volocopter GmbH, we successfully conducted the first public VoloDrone cargo flight at the ITS Hamburg 2021. Within a 3-minute test flight, with a maximum altitude of 22 meters, the drone delivered a euro-pallet-sized load to our DB Schenker CargoBike, transporting the load to the final destination! A fully electric and CO2 neutral operation. This is a significant milestone in our partnership with Volocopter to shape the supplychain of the future with innovative and sustainable solutions.
