Jamie and Schenker
Jamie began his journey at Schenker as an apprentice and now manages major international shipments within our GPIS team. From global travel to cross-department experience, he's built skills, confidence, and connections – supported every step of the way by a collaborative, open-door culture.
In his position within the GPIS (Global Projects and Industry Solutions) department, in the United Kingdom, Jamie is responsible for organising large shipments for projects all around the world. Starting from quote extending to the booking of cargo on selected method of transportation.
When Jamie joined Schenker, he took on our apprenticeship program. Upon completion, he progressed to a full-time employee within the GPIS department.
Having joined Schenker, he has experienced the variety of opportunities that are available. He also found the exposure by rotating around the business one of the main advantages of the scheme. “It exposes the apprentices and graduates to office life and even when they finish their apprenticeship and go to a completely different role, they have rotated through so many different departments already, encouraging them to be confident” says Jamie.
Throughout his time in the GPIS department, he has been able to work on many unique and exciting projects. While these projects have had their challenges, they have also provided Jamie with many openings to improve his skillset. These opportunities include the ability to travel around the country, visiting ports and meeting different people within the industry. Jamie has also been able to travel internationally, network with other professionals in the industry and improve his relationships and contacts.
As part of Jamie’s work with the GPIS department, a huge importance is placed on teamwork. Within the team, Jamie and his colleagues communicate if they are struggling and need help. This has been reinforced due to management policies and the attitude that Jamie has picked up while he has been working within an open-door policy. This work environment has allowed Jamie to improve his confidence by being given the ability to voice his opinions along with the opportunities given to him by the continuous training and mentorship that is offered by Schenker.
