  • DB Schenker Employee Jördis Trainee

Jördis is a globetrotter and works in different countries

    Jördis, Trainee

Eleven months and 21 days after her trainee program at DB Schenker, Jördis can say one thing: I couldn't have made a better decision.

During her studies in economics at Johannes Gutenberg-Uni in Mainz (Germany), Jördis did not initially concentrate on the logistics sector. But then her professor led her on the interesting path of this topic. "He had me enthused about the subject and that's why I laid the focus on logistics and IT in my master's degree."

How can such a powerful and extensive international network work? How are the transport streams organized there and how does this match with the theory we learn during our studies? Those were and are the questions that brought Jördis to DB Schenker and that inspire her on a daily basis. "Today we live in a time where many things are ordered online and delivered home. Therefore, logistics is simply the backbone of our economy. In her opinion global trade without logistics would just not happen."

"I always had the feeling of being welcome."

DB Schenker as a company was always appealing to her. This impression was confirmed during the application process, in interviews and at the assessment center. "Of course, you were tested for stressful situations, but everyone has always been kind and open to me."

Jördis also appreciates DB Schenker’s trainee program for its well-thought-out structure and necessary flexibility: "Every six months we have a training week at our Head Office. In between, every member of a class spends three months in a department of their choice.” She began her trainee career in project management for the "IT Management Land" department in Essen.

"That was great for me because I was able to gain a comprehensive insight into the entire processes and the individual teams at the department.”
After the first six months she moved to Singapore where she worked in a business analyst team on a land transportation IT project.
On one hand, Jördis is sorry to leave the departments after every rotation, though she still keeps close contact with Singapore. Her colleagues keep her up to date on the project’s progress. So, she still feels like she’s part of it. On the other hand, every rotation allows deeper knowledge of the world of logistics.

"The great thing about the trainee program is that the trainees can decide for themselves what they want to focus on."

One of her colleagues, for example, started in Digital Solutions and is now working in Air Freight. Another colleague started in finance and stayed in this department.
Another benefit are the partners of the program: "Our mentors and trainee contacts are very open, and I can talk to them at any time. They know the entire DB Schenker network and make sure that we are in good hands with our interests."

    DB Schenker is international

Working internationally plays a big role in DB Schenker’s trainee program. After Singapore and two rotations in Essen, Jördis will go to Canada for three further months to continue working on data analyses for the Connect 4.0 Ocean project.
She is not worried about major changes. Until today, she has found the Schenker Spirit in all departments.
A good team spirit is particularly important to her. "Wherever I have been so far, people have been extremely helpful. I never had to master a task by myself, and if there is a problem, we will work together to find a solution.

Jördis’ advice to all new trainees: "It’s important to find your own balance. The months in the departments pass quickly and you have to sort out how to finish your projects and at the same time plan the new tasks for the next block. Then you are able to gain an understanding of the different topics." / © DB Schenker

Jördis is very impressed by the after-work activities at DB Schenker: starting from ice skating in winter to the company‘s race in summer. It's not just the departments’ athletes who run - everyone is there. „We run together, we all stick together, and we also belong together. These are very special moments for me."
