Due to changing consumer behavior, stranded shipping containers are piling up in seaports with goods that can no longer be sold due to changing consumer behavior. DB Schenker announced today it has contracted with The City of New York to transport and deliver much needed personal protective equipment for health care workers in local area hospitals and elderly nursing homes.
The cargo, which consists of personal protective equipment such as medical goggles, gloves and gowns, is being picked up in several locations throughout China, transported to the U.S. on direct charter flights, and delivered to special Covid-19 distribution centers in the city. Discover the story

On May 10, Prime Minister of Malaysia Tan Sri Muhyiddin announced the extension of the movement control order (MCO) for another four weeks, from May 12 until June 9, 2020.
Air Freight
Operations continue running with skeleton staff in the office in all airport offices with staggered working hours. Customs Clearance is allowed however shipments will be held and only Essential Goods with MITI approvals are allowed for delivery and pickup.
Ocean Freight
Operations continue running in both Northport and Seaport, CFS with normal operating hours. Skeleton staff in office -Customer services running from 9.00am to 4pm. Those essential products and those with MITI approval only can be arranged for delivery / collection.

Domestic Distribution : Areas surrounding Enhanced Movement Control Order “EMCO” are being heightened by the Authorities. Distribution within the areas categorised under EMCO or Red Zones are subjected to approval from the Authorities. Domestic & Cross Border Movement : Stricter movement checks by the Police and Authorities on essential items and approval by MITI are allowed to be transported. Global. Together with our new partner Icelandair, we will schedule minimum 45 flights from Shanghai, China, to Munich, Germany, and Chicago, USA – starting tomorrow. To make this possible on short notice three Icelandair Boeing 767 passenger aircraft were converted into cargo planes for exclusive use by DB Schenker. With 12 rotations per week, we will quickly and efficiently transport urgently needed medical equipment and supplies during the current Coronavirus outbreak. Middle East/Africa. As the Saudi government extends the suspension of passenger services in the country, the Saudi Arabian Airlines has collaborated with Saudia Cargo to begin weekly cargo-only passenger flights to support the country’s airfreight demand.

Asia Pacific. With Easter fast approaching we would like to advise you of our operating changes over this period.
Due to the current environment, DB Schenker will be moving to reduced overall staffing and support functions across our business from Thursday 9th April to Tuesday 14th April, and returning to our normal working conditions Wednesday 15th April.
Please note we have adequate resourcing and operational coverage. Operations will still be running and shipments will be processed as normal. However, your point of contact may differ during this period.

On April 7, Japan’s Prime Minister Shinzo Abe announced a State of Emergency in Japan, specifically covering Tokyo and six other prefectures including Saitama, Kanagawa, Chiba, Osaka, Hyogo and Fukuoka.
We have set up a Crisis Response Team to respond to the plan as quick as end of Feb 2020 and have been working for over six weeks to ensure our staff’s safety and our overall business continuity plan.
Air and Ocean Freight: Import and Export services in Japan remain operational with no impact from the State of Emergency.
Contract Logistics: All Schenker-Seino’s Contract Logistics sites remain fully operational with appropriate employee health and safety measures set by Risk Management and HSSE in place.
Land Transport: Local transportation is not affected and in full operation.
We have imported over 80,000 additional masks this month and 650 litres of hand sanitization to support our efforts of containment across all our offices and sites. We have increased our PC inventory significantly and have further enhanced our VPN network to ensure all departments can work from home and / or set up in alternative locations to continue to support your requirements from any location in Japan.
Additional offices have been established at key locations in support of our segregation strategy, and the majority of non-operational staff are now working from home. Operations staff are working under extended flexitime to reduce social contact.

Europe. Here is our current status of land transportation across Europe:
Asia Pacific. The Singapore government announced on April 3 the closure of most workplaces, with the exception of essential services and key economic sectors, effective April 7 to May 4, 2020.
Air & Ocean Freight: Air and Ocean freight services are considered essential services and exempted from suspension. Airport, seaport, terminal services, customs clearance and trucking services remain unaffected by the suspension.
Contract Logistics: All Schenker Singapore Contract Logistics sites remain fully operational with appropriate employee health and safety measures in place.
Land Transport: Local transportation and cross border trucking are not affected and in full operation. We do our utmost to maintain our high service levels and to secure lead times. As some receivers closed their operations due COVID-19, we seek your support to check delivery possibility with the consignees.

Asia Pacific. Despite challenging conditions in India resulting from the COVID-19 lockdown, Schenker India has scheduled charter operations during April to support the needs of our health care customers & customers who are into continuous manufacturing to keep the supply chain active.
In India our airfreight operations remain operational for both import and export activities, including customs clearance & land transportation, however capacity remains constrained at less than 30%. In an effort to support our health care customers & supply chain associated with continuous manufacturing, we have scheduled charter programs for entire April 2020.
